Hi Omfug,
Wish your friend a speedy recovery. You didn’t mention the location of your friend who is suffering. I think the distance between his / her place to hospital is a factor, isn’t it?
BTW, Apollo is a standard hospital but I do not have any first hand info regarding that specific department / specialization but CMC Vellore is my trusted hospital for any critical illness. I admire their service and the quality of treatment but really reasonable rate.

What's the best hotel in India?

Well, at least many of the members will have been to a number of hotels. Anyone would be most unlucky to have experience of a number of hospitals

So the answer is, really, that that is a silly (albeit well-meaning) question...

But my advice would be that the best hospital for any given person is the one with a first-class specialist in the area of that person's sickness.

The expense could be anything from moderate to high. Your friend has to discuss this with his doctor....

The one that treats you with love...no matter what you wear.

Such hospitals are rare in India. Most of these multi-specialty hospitals are currency printing mints in disguise! They charge you for a set of expensive antibiotic pills for that little fart you emit, cut the dosage completely on the second day and charge you for the pills you are not going to consume anymore.

Dear omfug,
Liver cirossis is a serious thing. How advanced is it? Check out Appollo & Max.

I would suggest finding an excellent doctor in the cities you are looking at first.

Many good doctors will only visit, or operate in certain hospitals. By looking at the hospital first, you may not get the best medical advice. Corporate hospitals have competent doctors, sure, but not always excellent ones.

Offtopic, rangss, like your Tull signature.

Apollo is a reputed chain of hospitals with branches across the country:

In Delhi, Gangaram hospital has a good reputation is this field:

If costs become a constraint, a newer hospital in NOIDA near Delhi, may be a better option -

Having been unfortunate enough to experience not one but TWO hospitals in India (yes I am a bit accident prone!) I can tell you that the so called best private hospital in Jodphur was not a lot cleaner or better organized than the hideous nightmare that is Jaisalmer government hospital. The stains on the beds were equally as bad as were the blood stains and discarded needles At least in the private hospital the doctor didn't need to be bribed to see me though... I SO appreciate the NHS now....

Anyway I am sure Delhi hospitals would be slightly better than this, ( hopefully) but what I found even more stressful than the hospital experiences was the lack of family and friends around me. So my one piece of advice to your friend would to be not to travel any further away from home than need be and do loads of research before you travel.

Love and care are just as important as drugs and doctors as far as recovery from any illness or operation are concerned.

I have an opinion that all these hospitals run by missionaries and religious bodies are one of the best. They may not rank well in facilities or expertise. but in cleanliness and care they certainly would be the best.

The Apollo won't be cheap if he's a westerner. They have latched onto the idea of medical holidays and the price list I looked at was pretty expensive!!

treatment should be based on the doctor and not on the hospitals!
