Westerner studying in India – Can't swallow pills

Have you tried suppositories?

Our cats (technically my lady's, so I'm not so much into the details. They really are hers) do get something called Easy Pill, EZ Pill? Interestingly, one of those solutions for humans Peak had pointed to seemed to be called just so (it's not the most creative of names, right).

It's just some sweet paste you wrap it in, clever beasts that they are I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance they'll fall for it, and then they'll certainly lose their interest the longer the course lasts.

I guess liver paste and the likes or what's that stuff called in English may as well be tried. With my dogs of yore, doing this I guess my chance of success was about the same. (Managing to get whatever covering off and still leaving the pill untouched is of course another classic. You'd think with a huge mouth like that in a sizable dog's case and normally ready to swallow just about anything this would be difficult, but apparently it is in fact an amazingly versatile tool, and yes, they can.)

Beyond this, I suppose it's back to the good ol' shoving it down their throats, indeed. It's an unpleasant hassle, isn't it, for they and you. (And hoping the darn thing doesn't dissolve as you try, foam all over the place, sneakily spat out five minutes later, etc.)

Where available, very effective. I spent about three days after an operation strictly nothing-by-mouth. Most nutrients and drugs were pumped in to veins, but one pain killer was, err, stuck up the backside. I wouldn't really like to have to do it myself though.

The few times that I had them injected, it was just once a day, like Ivana also says. It acts quicker to boot.

@ Op: there is no need to worry more in India than you do at home. There are other ways to take your medicine, if need be. But lets hope you wont get ill at all, and you wont have any trouble. Safe and happy stay in India!

I've been practicing every day but Ican only swallow tiny bits. I will take extra care not to get sick so I don't have the unfortunate experience of having to go to the hospital and get antibiotics.

Lots of antibiotics also come in Liquid Form - (usually for children). For eg. I have seen Azithromycin(Zithromax) in liquid form - and also many others.
