I think that the food in India is great.I'm veggie and never had any probs finding yummy stuff to eat. You have to be careful of food poisoning of course, though. I was lucky and only got sick twice.
As far as weight goes depends on how much you eat! I found that i wasn't as hungry as usual cos of the heat and lost about a stone!

How long will you be there? I lost weight gradually and steadily until my 6th month, when I lost 12 in two weeks! I dont recommend the parasite that caused that, however!

On short trips my weight stays the same, typically, but I've never gianed there!

Food in India is too good to pass up.

I was afraid to get on the scales after coming home because I ate so much in India in three weeks. Wearing salvar kameez I couldn't really judge if I was gaining or not, but I felt flabby because I wasn't going to the gym. Luckily, the scales were kind and I was slightly less than before going to India. I can't really figure it out.
Except I ate very very little sweet things...an ocassional coke (I NEVER drink soft drinks...but sometime I needed another drink that was NOT water) and lassi for breakfast. Very little snacking because lunch and dinner were so heavy I wasn'T hungry.

After about ten days I cut back on the breads...and tried to liimit myself to one chapati or nan in a meal rather than three or four!

We ate dinner every night after 9 p.m. which made me afraid of the weight gain.

But I think that drinking about 4 liters of water a day helped keep the weight off. And pretty much sticking to vegetarian food and having chicken only in places that were a bit upper end.

Never got sick, but now that I am home my stomach does not feel quite normal--waiting for it to get back to the way it normally is.
Also have not had a chance to get to the gym....so will really need to get my schedule/stomach back on track in the next 2 weeks.

Byron, Tina and I ate pretty much the same for our month-long tour. Tina gained 5lbs, I gained 3, Byron lost 8. It's all gone now, tho- long live spinach salad!

Talking

Puri Shobzi (sp?) for breakfast, Massala Dhosa for lunch, Special Thali for dinner. A few beers here and there along the way.

Weight loss? Me? No chance.

Somebody once told me, and it made sense when I thought about it, that women tend to gain weight in India and men tend to lose weight.

When I'm in India I always eat a lot.
Breakfast, small lunch, normal dinner.
I never had any problems with my stomach or anything else and I never gain weight.

Quite contrary to my problems when I'm eating in my home-country. And in Germany I'm eating a lot of veggie Indian food (in restaurants and at home)

Maybe it has something to do with being relaxed and not under the "normal stress"
