Weather?
Was juz wondering...issit a very fine period of time to go on holiday to kerala...heard it's the monsoon period. Does that mean we can expect lots of rain and storms? issit a good idea to still go ahead during the month of june/july? or will it be an inconvenient?

June-July is going to be tough in Kerala. But if you are willing to modify your expectations from a kerala holiday a bit to include the romance of rains, nothing as good as that. But dont think there would be many house boats running at that time.
let me know more on what your itenery is and your expectations. Will try to answer you better.

Hello Sandy,
Cannot give a good suggestion on this trip if it is for a family of 5. But then again you cannot control the school holidays. I would suggest you a) Trivandrum ( Muesuem, Padmanabha temple, possibly ponmudi!), an excursion to the Padmanabhapuram palace near Trivandrum, b) Stay at one of the backwater resorts in the Kollam - Alleppey belt (options are Asthamudi, ATDC, a few in Vembanad etc) but try not to risk a houseboat trip as it is dangerous in case of sudden showers, c) Fort Kochi for leaisurely strolls during the day and good food. Plus ofcourse mattanchery palace, the fishing nets, church and synagogue. d) Temple town of Guruvayoor ( incase you are spiritualy inclined) e) Can consider one of the beach side resorts at Kovalam or Varkala in case you can keep a tab of children BUT sea is very very risky. f) Munnar may be a good option but I have not personally experienced the same in monsoon. So need someone else to pitch in on how good munnar may be at that time. Last one week has seen heavy summer rains in Kerala and quite devastating too. But monsoon may not be so harsh but certainly romantic to me. Try not to venture to large open grounds like thekkady or any dams, as downpour can be quite heavy and you will have to be in wet clothes most of the day. Also Kerala being a small state, you can choose to hire a good safe taxi and travel around. |
