The monsoon in Kerala/Coastal Karnataka/Goa commences in the last week of May/first week of June and extends to mid September. During July-August you do have heavy rain; but it does stop and allows you to check the sights and sounds of India.
Frankly, monsoon is the time to check out lush and green landscape. If you are a beach buff, then monsoon isn't the time to be in south India. |

Chennai, and, I guess, the South East coast, will be dry, in fact Chennaites make a hobby of praying for rain most of the time as it doesn't get enough.
Kerala,as the Prof has said, will be having a monsoon. but although you may get some days when the weather is really severe, you will have plenty of time when it is not raining.
