Water Sugar Salt mix?
I heard that rather than taking medicine to -stop- diahrrea (spelling), it is better to drink some kinda Salt Sugar water mixture to flush it all out.
I have heard numbers thrown around about how to build this mixture... does anyone know what it is supposed to be? Instructions on how to build this magic potion would be appreciated, if you know what I'm talking about that is! Thanks all!

ORS packets can be bought from local medical shopes for about 10 to 15 rs a pouch.
See the home made ORS also in the FAQ.You are talking about that. www.rehydrate.org/faq/index.html

I couldn't remember the mixture, so just sat in a bar drinking water and licking salt of my hand, pretending I was drinking Tequila Slammers, it didn't do much good but was fun.
I eventually got some tablets from a chemist that had me feeling much better within 24 hours; I can't remember the name of the tablets though.

There is a small tablet called LOMOTIL or something sounds similar to stop the running. It really stops fast.I've used it and do carry when I venture to places where I'm not sure of.
Be careful if use it in excess you may land up at the other end of the problem – constipation! What a cute name for the job it does!! |

A safe medicine is the Ayurvedic tablet Bi-Quinol. This along with plain curds and luke warm black-coffee is a sure cure for diarrhoea.

Mix half a teaspoon of salt and eight of sugar in a litre of water. I got that from the 'Rough Guide' and it's worked for me in the past. If what you've got isn't too severe, it should do the trick. Drinking lots of the above and spending a lot of time on the loo should sort you out! In my experience, things like Lomotil and Imodium are OK if you really need to travel - but they just paralyse your gut and can cause more problems in the long run (erk! ) if you've got something more serious.

I use coca cola diluted with bottled water to take the bubbles out of it (and they're both safe). I then add a good pinch of salt to a 2 litre water bottle. The glucose in the coke will help to give you some energy, the salt will replace what you lose and the water in the coke/bottled water is pretty safe. Drink a lot frequently and don't stop.
It will not flush your system out as such, but it will keep you hydrated which is very very important. It will also give your system something to throw up or out ...... so I guess in that way it does help to clear you. If you eat food you'll be back to square 1 as the bacteria have something fresh to feed on. I just starve myself of food when it's bad. The above mix has always worked for me. If I really need to travel I use Lomotil as it really blocks me up good. This should only be used when you have to lose sight of your toilet!! Have fun!!

I always carry a couple of sachets of "Dioralyte" in my first aid pack; they are small and light and worth carrying.
They are mixed with water and have a slight citrus flavour and contain salt, sugar, potassium and citrate. They help to keep up your body fluid levels expecially after vomiting or diarrhoea. rab |

ors are best. you can also add some sugar and a pinch of salt (if you have it on hand) -better to buy the ors.
you need to identify what the prioblem is. bismol is good for stopping you up when things are not serious. immodium for when things are. neither 'cure' the problem. myself, i give the problem five full days. if still problem, i go for medicine. dr/stoll test is best, but ive learned to id the issue by now. if you have gas, cant control the squirts, nooooo fever -most likely giardia. flagyl 400mg, 2x day ten days, no alcohol. if mucho shits, maybe fever, maybe vomit -most likey not giardia. norofloxin 400mg, 2x day three days, no alcohol. if low grade fever -no worries, eat chiles and paracetemol if high fever, take paracet, monitor fever. be careful. food poisoning dysentary hepititis a are all possibilities. be clean, stay clean, eat clean. when your on the mend- stay away from alcohol and spicy food if possible. |
