Want to donate? Donate blood!
I was all set to donate blood at CMC Hospital in Vellore (Tamil Nadu) back in June but wasn't able to as I had recently finished doxycycline. They won't let you donate if you are taking ANY medication there (including contraceptive pill). I ended up having blood tests there myself and was quite impressed with the standard of care.
Hi!
Blood donation has some criteria like the donator must be of 18 or above and also s/he should weigh approx 45kgs.It's a noble act and one must donate blood.Main advantage is that your body gets a regular blood circulation with the fresh one.You can feel some weakness. For this, some rest and fruits are advisable. After donating blood,I have felt a Great satisfaction. Why don't you try! and share your experience.

i donated last weekend and i didn't felt any type of weakness or problem after that.. indeed i felt really good and later i continued with my normal routine work!
A very noble cause
It is indeed a very noble cause, human blood can't still be manufactured in factories so it is a precious gift to someone in dire need.
Blood banks in India are in a perennial shortage all the time, particularly when cases of dengue outbreak arise. Apart from that, there are ppl who need constant transfusion like children with thalassemia.
I have donated 3 times at camps organized by them without any issues, for more information about donation refer this:

good member on the ground then reported there isn't much of a tradition in India to donate blood anyway, so there is in fact a chronic shortage of it under any circumstances.
i want donate blood which helps to governm your health.
Blood donation is noble cause. But take one precaution- If your blood belongs to rare category or precious one- do not donate in camps. Donate when somebody really needs in hospital on call. Otherwise blood banks just making money out of it.
Hey ironic to see a thread about this. Me and my friends from Kolkatta recently had a conversation about blood donation. It is really not that common in India to donate blood, and my friend was really encouraging everyone in our group to donate if and when we are ever back visiting
I think this is something I will do when I am there.
Another thing to keep in mind is that foreigners donating is probably a plus because we will most likely have diffeerent needed blood types (as common blood types vary throughout regions). If I'm not mistaken I think the most common blood type in India is something like B+, and here in the US it is O+. So I think it's good to donate somewhere where your blood type is rarer
The only thing I have been concerned about is cleanliness of facilities. I have heard much horror stories about gov't run hospitals not being clean. I wonder if its an issue! But India has amazing medical facilities also!

I'm not permitted to donate blood nowadays, but last August I needed 7 pints.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone.

GoanGoan......here & there
I donated blood earlier (and i would like to do more in the future), i think it is one of thing that is not regrettable at all,you know that you do something good and feels good.
People should try to donate more, some people are scared of the thought of syringe, but its not that painful as it look
According to study, donating blood have many good points, one of them is it clears the skin, and many other more.

If you ever require blood here, you must replace it. It's a good idea to have some credits registered in your name. You never know when you might need it.
You could enquire at one of the hospitals, Apollo Victor in Margao, maybe?

well, you can donate a kidney and some bone marrow whilst still alive, for just about the rest of it, it's certainly preferable if you are somewhat deceased already
