Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic created to replace PCP. It is used on humans (usually the young or old) every day in hospitals all over the world where the surgical dose is far higher than the recreational dose and has only recently been criminalised in the UK. It is a very safe drug as it usually does not effect breathing or heart-rate like most other anesthetics or CNS depressants. It doesn't effect the gag-reflex either, so choking is virtually impossible. There have been very few, if any, deaths from ketamine overdose alone. The lethal dose is so high that you would be unconscious before you administer the required amount.

I have to agree that people on large doses of K are not nice to look at - especailly when they have been up for too long! But I could say the same about drunk people that get themselves into a state... plus alcohol is far, far worse for your body than Ketamine is.
