Almost anything is possible in India. But buy at your own risk due to high incidence of counterfeit drugs in India.

In Goa you require a prescription for buying Valium but getting a prescription is not a big problem. Just go to a doctor(no appointment is required) and ask the doctor to prescribe it. Will cost you just Rs 50.

Make sure you go to a reputable pharmancy in the better part of town.
I am not sure about benzodiazepines like Valium (diazepam), but most 'prescription' meds can bought in India without an actual prescription, and for about one tenth the USA asking price.
My friend bought her mom what would cost $1,000.00 American dollars worth of prescription meds for $100.00. There were psyche meds there and heart meds.
I bought 100 Viagra for $15.00 American.
Remember though that there is an I think it is a 3 month usage limit? or is it a 6 month usage limit with international customs on bring back meds from India?

legally it is not allowed but some pharmacies sell it for money, but nowadays the FDA (drug regulatory authority in India) is getting stricter and in many states the pharmacies have stopped selling them without prescription.

Thumbs up Possible but.....

A trick:
Ask for one tablet only, you will get it from any shop (most of the cases)

why not.?

Valium can be picked up at any chemist in India without much hassles... One just needs to look appropriate and pretty sober while asking the chemist...

LOOK him in the eye... as if u mean business... hahaha
Also, try going to a pharmacy, which is NOT in the center of a shopping place or mall or something.... these people are mostly apprehensive about giving such things without a prescription...

Anyways, enjoy your trip....

Codeine tablets are now banned in India, you can't get them any more.

Valium is diazepam, avilable in any pharmacy anywhere in India and with Prescription. For prescription, try the method as GoanCanuck has suggested. And somnath is also right, you can buy a single tablet without prescription (but not always).
And, there is always possibility of getting work done by exploiting the greed factor, you know what i meant .
