In the U.S.A. there only only 2 shots required IF you have had the 3 pre-exposure. I'm certain the extra shot is just fine! In fact, we have a friend who just completed her 3 shots (she had post exposure) having been nipped by a dog. The problem with waiting 10 days to watch the animal, for most travelers, is they are long gone from the place they were bitten and, in the case of our friend, it was a street dog, looking like dozens of others, as well as them leaving in less than 10 days.

Even I don't think its practical to watch over the dog for 10 days... it's only in case of a pet dog in a situation where you know the owners and are going to be around for that long.
Rabies is one illness that is 100 % fatal. So it is better to be safe and go for your shots as advised by your travel clinic. |

But there are diseases in India that are not present in our home countries. In the UK there is no Polio, Rabies, Maleria and very little chance of picking up Hep-A or Typhoid.
Also you should have then 2-3 weeks before you travel because they can take that long to gain full effectiveness. |

Dogs in India, so far
The dogs here are so lazy, humble, even boring, at least so far in Delhi... as I have not had the rabies shot (decided against it because I've had it up to here with vaccinations), I''m just going to lay low on the dog provoking
But I agree that you might as well get it if you are on schedule... |

Wow, that's really expensive! I paid for my Rabipur course around 5 Pounds per shot.
