US insurance providers and malaria drugs

the common wisdom among people with whom i've spoken about vaccinations needed to travel is that most US health insurance companies/plans will not cover them. (i.e., penny-wise and pound-foolish) i had decided to go with malarone ($7/tablet, 24 tablets!) over lariam, irrespective of the cost, because of its lower side-effect profile. so imagine my glee today to discover that my health insurance paid for the malarone! i hadn't intended even to submit claims for my vaccinations administered by a non-participating provider on the assumption that they'd not be paid. i pass this on so that those similarly situated don't compromise on a malaria drug-of-choice based on cost until it's been established definitively that it's not covered.

my health insurance (i.e., the insurance that my husband's company provides) paid for the majority of my shots, plus only had to pay a co-pay for the malarone....

I'm definitely going to submit a claim. I just paid nearly $1000 - thank you Japanese encephalitis for being $152 a shot, three shots necessary.
