Upanishads! I've been googling now.
At four minutes to five at the order of Dara Shikoh, the Upanishads were translated from Sanskrit into Persian. Then, between two minutes and four minutes past six Abraham-Hyacinthe Anquetil Du Perron published a Latin translation. Not bad in just over an hour. The Sanskrit term upaniṣad literally means "sitting down beside" So here I am upanisad my computer. I'm now going to tell all my friends what I've learned today, especially when they're upanisading me. Buck |

As an ex fireman of 24 years I agree about the smoke. However there are a lot of US citizens on this site who might not like being at the 'fag' end.
William Somerset Maugham is very hard going I find. But Muffin the Mule was positively barbaric, and my mate had a lotus but he said it just drunk petrol and the insurance was too high. Buck - Free and Healing for Eleven Months, Twenty Four Days, 18 Hours and 41 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 31 Days and 3 Hours, by avoiding the use of 8969 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £2,002.67. |

South Asians & Americans seem to have a rather nasty tobacco consuming habit in common - they chew it regularly.
This certainly would explain inflated cancer numbers - due mainly to increased occurrences of oral & throat malignancies. ![]()

since practicing the yamas and the niyamas are 10 ways to relieve our suffering I would say....
regarding smoking, that would be AHIMSA, to oneself and to others! YOUR smoke is violent to MY lungs! I would also say ASTEYA because your smoke is stealing the cleanliness of my air space. also your second hand smoke is stealing my breaths. as for a niyama, I would say SAUCHA....a smoker does not keep their lungs pure and clean.... |

Yo! Yogagal.
I've googled most of your post to get a translation. Whilst my feet are firmly on planet Earth I agree with the essence of what you are saying. All smokers are dirty and smell! Buck- Free and Healing for Eleven Months, Twenty Four Days, 22 Hours and 21 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 31 Days and 3 Hours, by avoiding the use of 8973 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me £2,003.53. |

my father had a massive scare a few years ago - woke up one morning and could not breathe. when he was escorted to the ER he was told him that five minutes more and he would not have made it. so he quit, just like that! my sister smokes like a chimney and she really wants to quit (or so she says) but none of the stop-smoking aids have helped her. she really needs to; those things are killing her. i tried encouraging her with asking her to consider what she'd do with all the $$ that she'd save. it is an incentive, but looking death in the face, as with my father, seems to be one of the strongest motivators.

Probably the figures are right because in my opinion indians are not great smokers and they only smoke beedies. Beside this 50 percent of the population (women) don´t smoke at all (well the woman in the picture is the exception...

Ladies and Gents - after lurking for some time, followed by membership, I felt this might be an appropriate time to make my first post. As of January 26, 2007, I am an ex-smoker. A very heavy smoker. Correcting 23 years of bad decision making is financing my first trip to India. Couldn't have done it without patches and Wellbutrin (same thing as Zyban), but most importantly the desire to quit. Leaving in 20 months!
