I had to buy proguanil when I was in India in the late 90's.
The price was exactly the same as it was in the UK. (You can get chloroquine free)
The current price of proguanil in the UK is £7.10 for 60.

Which works out at Rs 9.70 per tablet.

It's good old fashioned Indian overcharging.(which is quite odd because in 30 years of travelling to India pharmacies are the ONE business which never attempted to overcharge)

On my first trip to India I lost my proguanil and didn't buy anymore and came to no harm.
It's just a matter of luck and/or taking sensible precautions.

Just some days I'm more grumpy than others

I guess there is no harm in the repetition. My post-count would probably only be in the hundreds without it . But I think the site will be moving towards the best information being easily available at a glance. The India for Beginners forum is a big step in that direction.

If you're up in the mountains, malaria isn't the problem that it is on the flatlands.

Its a different calculas if one is there long term as damage can be caused that way by the preventive measure. A Glaxo rep hinted to that it isn't the case with Malarone. But, I thought to myself bankruptcy could be a long term side effect. Keep in mind that even Malarone can cause problems for some people short term.

It seems also to be wrong to say that malaria is for life. It used to be: now, it seems, it can be eliminated.
Interesting Nick, I'll have to see if they can do old reprobates as well..
