To Go or Not To Go....That is the question!
Alright folks, I've been prepping and planning for my trip to India for approx 3 months now and am scheduled to leave on Dec 11th for Mumbai. I will be going up to Gujurat to visit family for about a week and then am heading down to Goa, Kerala, TN and then up the eastern coast to Calcutta and Darjeeling.
Up until now my family has been very supportive of me going but now with all the news about "chickungunya" and "dengue" they are opposing my trip. Even my relatives in India are telling me not to come as they've all been infected with Chickungunya. I've talked to a few people here who believe the chickengunya epidemic will disspate by December since the season will be drier. What have you all heard? And do you think I should still go? Thanks

The current Chickungunya outbreak started in or around January of 2006 didn't it? I think one could do some research on the history of this virus to understand better its typical duration.
I would feel safe in hotels and/or with deet and proper clothing with the Aedes Mossie. The intangible is staying with relatives and being able to adapt quickly and strategically to their living spaces and habits in correlation with standard mossie protection tactics. Personally, I would do my travelling first, acclimatize yourself to India, monitor the situation through the media and by word-of-mouth, and then visit relatives at the end of the trip when you are more experienced, savvy, and hopefully more relaxed about the current state of any mossie carried virus'
