white shirt?

Some have recommended to take light coloured clothing to India for the heat. I have a white button down shirt. I normally don't wear white but I bought it a while ago because it is UV protectant.

I'm wondering if this is worth taking to India given that it most probably will get dirty. It's very light, quick dry and great for heat - but from reading about the experience of others, I am getting the feeling that it would just get ruined quickly.

Thoughts?

White color is great in the summer heat.
Since its light and dries quickly, why don't you bring it?

Thanks Sanjay,

It's ridiculous - I just worry about ruining white clothing. But why have it if I won't use it? Silly me! I probably will take it along.

drink plenty of fluids and there is no need to take extra salt if you are eating correctly, Indians dont wear hats but I do, its better than getting burnt. The large straw one sound sensible I have always left mine with someone when I leave and it has always been accepted. 30 degrees is okay look at all the Balmy army in OZ for the cricket...keep the fluids up and have a nice cleansing cold ale at the end of the day.

Mangrove, I wear a lot of white clothing --- like every day. There is no reason it should get ruined.

Whatever you wear will require frequent washing, because of the sweat as much as the dirt. The combination of both, in cities, may cause you to change several times a day!

Oh ok, I'm just so used to ruining whites! It might be fine. Good to know though that I might need several changes of clothes. I plan to take very little with me and hope to find good stuff to buy while I'm there. I'm sure I will find the most weather-appropriate clothing once I am there.

Thanks!

agree with Nick I mostly wear light clothes when in India cheap as chips to get laundered anyway and if theya re good quality no problems I also take soem light weight travel clothes Dri Az a Bone they are light weight and wash out and dry really fast and dont need ironing I usually wear these when i'm travelling on the road or trains for a length of time. Check out the camping shops for these before you leave they are well worth the cost

The heat in the North West of India is quite dry Mangrove and as such it's not as big a deal, as it is in the south or east of the country.

The period in which you plan to travel should actually be quite pleasant!!

Light colors will keep you cooler(by reflecting not absorbing heat) and thus, more importantly, attract less mosquitos to your space... which hone in on you via heat/scent/sweat sensors that they seem to have perfected over the centuries.

Thanks Davey - those are good tips and I have learned to take along quick dry clothing throughout the years. I do have some, I also plan to buy clothes in India though. I love Indian clothing, the colours, etc.

Very true cyberhippie - I probably don't have much to worry about for humidity so that's great I can imagine that it because unbearable in some parts of the country! Guess I will have to experience that another time... by traveling South.

Peak - Mosquitoes are mostly out at night though eh?

True ... mostly at dawn or dusk but species (Aedes or Anopheles) is a factor in feeding times/habits as well.

At any rate there is a danger of getting bitten when one gets over heated (sweating etc.)during the sunny & hot hours of the day, and then retires to a shaded area to recooperate - concentrating too much on cooling down - and too less on the mossies having a siesta nearby ..... with one eye open.

Lucky woman.... going somewhere hot and dry!

Mossies... there's daytime ones too

[cross-posted with peak]

If you disturb a swarm of them from foliage etc, they won't worry about if it is meal time: they'll bite.

I am pretty sure that he bought it in thailand, and i couldn't google one so i guess you have to take it for what it's worth since i don't know how you would easily find one.
