Tijuana vs Bangkok
The above cities have been the only two larger cities that I have been to out of the US and I noticed that they have quite contrasting atmospheres. In TJ I always had my guard up as it is not the safest place to be as an American if you venture off the main tourist route, I once read that one American is killed a day there which really doesn't surprise me since most of the Americans there are young drunk 18 year olds acting out of control, and of course I was never one of them, and I must also mention the wonderful corrupt cops. On the other hand when I was in Thailand I felt more than comfortable and safe to walk the streets of Bangkok at 16 with my three other girlfriends at any time of the night.
Long story short, I am wondering if the atmosphere of Delhi is more similar to that of Bangkok or TJ? |

neither!
i also wondered if paharganj in dehli would be like koh san road but it is really nothing like it. I havent been to Tijuana for many years (could it have changed that much??) but i would also say no!! absolutely nothing like it.
is this a safety question?? i was in my room too early to tell you if it is safe to party all night and stumble home!!

{off topic}
Just have to stick up for Tijuana a little. I'm certain those statistics are incorrect Williaam. I go there fairly often for a day of shopping/eating or a weekend at Rosarita Beach. I've never felt the least bit uncomfortable. When I fly to other parts of Mexico, I usually drive to TJ and fly out of their airport as the flights are then domestic, and much cheaper. I also spent 3 months in Thailand and I love Bangkok too! |

I guess our experiences in TJ could be similar to how people experience India, all a matter of perspective and situations. Other places in Mexico I always felt safe but TJ was always not amongst my fav. But as you stated, off topic. .

That's exactly right. And border towns are usually notorious anyway. Like you said, too many go there looking for trouble, then are surprised when they find it!

Yeah Delhi though having a complelty different vibe from Bangkok is as safe if not safer.
Walked the streets at all hours and never felt threatened. I'll say it again...India is a very safe country and as far as westerners go a completly non-violent environment Hope that helps Never been to TJ but if your going by your description then no it' not like that Bryan

Hey, I love Bangkok spent Ages there, and Never really felt Unsafe... Well maybe a litle, there were more traveler "freaks" in Bankok guesthouses around Kho San Rd than I seen in Paraganj, then again I went from a long time in Bankok to Calcuta And allthough I Had been In india before I was shocked (again!) It is more of another planet and still more of the so called "third world) in some ways... where bankok is more a variation of a western city sort of (not really).... Totaly different anyhow! And yeah Delhi feels safe, but then again I would say Unsafe too... I dont like walking around there in the midle of the night anyhow, it gets pretty dark and pretty deserted (exept for the streeshop owners sometimes sleeping by their shop etc... And there isnt much "Night life" Bankok on the other side runs and runs and the verry drunk brits etc (allthough Unpleasent at times) still dint leave you with a empy dark street...
I think the Mayham you can see in Bankok is hapening in dheli too, but on a whole other level.... Dont know nothing about TJ though...... Allthough Ive been told that south america is The Dangerous place.
