the pink pill
i couldnt find the pink pill thread again, was this norflox?
what is the illness where you squirt out totally water, and cant drink even water without it flying out the wrong end-that is if you wait that long to find out before you decide to take something.. i think this turns into the one with the fever...anyway, i remember taking norflox for five days but i dont remember the dosage. does anyone know? after taking one pill i feel fine, but i dont think the indian method of stopping the pills when you feel ok is a good idea, so i want to take the full five days...last time i did that i was ok for three months. not counting amoebas....and ear infections...and throat infections... it's just a period of adjustment, right guys? salima |

yikes. im no doctor, so take this with some grains of oral rehydration salts... the color of the pill has nothing to do with the anything.
ok - it sounds like you may have giardia but you say you have fever so im inclined to say its not giardia. if you have serious gas = giardia. if not just a gutfuck. based on the fact youve already taken norofloxin and it has had effect - i would continue. the regiment generally is: 400mg 2x daily for 3 days -NO ALCOHOL and be nice to your tummy. never ever stop when you feel better -finish! otherwise good liklihood the germs will return with a vengence and youll have to move on to cipro. if youve already taken cipro -youre really screwed.... i give it five days. rest and no travel, bread and as little spice as possible. no black coffee. if after that -i take meds. do not rush to take meds -you can easily build resistance and it kills all the flora (and in india maybe the fauna too ;-) in your gut. |

right, no gas...and no sulphur smell either...
thanks, this is what i wanted to know. everybody else in the city is also sick, it isnt just me-middle class people, anyway middle class indians seem to be very sickly and afraid to go out in the sun, i notice. the working class dont get sick and they can go out all day long with a wet towel on their head and not even sweat. i want to be like them....dammit! |

If you already have gone thru one antibiotic cure and still have symtoms - take the time to see a doctor. Milder forms of diarrhea can be caused by the normal flora being killed off by the medicines. Try eating curd to normalise. The benovelent bacterias in curd/yoghurt also exists in dried , casule form , but I don`t know if you can buy them in India. The pink pill mentioned is pro`lly Immodium/Loperamid which is a medication that slows down the intestines to cut down diarrhea. I`d be wary to interfere with this defence mechanism in this way. Hope you feel better soon. |

thanks vistet-actually i feel great today
probably i am not being clear. i went through one antibiotic treatment but it was about a month ago at least, and this started out very mild so i let it go for about a week and a half, then the paint gun started working, so i had to do another. i do believe though that the last antibiotic program wasnt enough. this one will do it! also, i am going to find out about the acidophilus pills on the web. i wont be having curd any more because i am living in a hostel and i get my food delivered. if they send me raita in a tiffin it is warm and very unappetizing, so i dont eat it. also i may find that this method of eating is going to make me even sicker than the water. who knows when the food was cooked that i am given and in what conditions...scary thought. but if the other girls here dont die, why should i? |

with giardia you dont always have sulphu smell or metal taste in your mouth. in fact, you dont always have a lot of gas either...
you could be 'sick again' - cured and reinfected OR...maybe you were never cured at all. i would have a stool test -its starting to sound like giardia in that it can be a bitch to get rid of (of course cipro and noro will never get rid of giardia). im not big on natural cures personally. they take too long (i cant hang out in one place for a month while my body deals with it). but i do give five days to differentiate between a problem and a PROBLEM. indeed the food could be making you sick. but i would have a care in that - i dont get sick from dirt and food, not even a tummy ache. but after 10 years -give me a little dirty water -bam! im down. go figgur'..... my point -it may take years for your body to adjust. i also know many native asians who return home and pick up gut problems. finally, for those that thinkits just us foreigners -i always used to point to all the immodium adverts in the bkk train station -written in thai. stay away from acidic food and spice and esp black coffee/alcohol and get a stool test. did you stop the regiment?! if so, i might recommend if you wont go to a clinic to take seven days of noro OR move up to cipro BUT...find out the regiment for that (i forget). finally, it MAY be giardia and that is why you should get a stool test. finally if the paint gun is uncontrollable in that no matter where you are you gotta let it go immediately -it also could be giardia. good luck, no fun being sick. |
