Yeah, when I think of all the ridiculous (...ly awesome) things I ate in India, I just don't get it.
like the time I asked for only one jalebi and got handed three. ordered "only a little" barfi and got about half a kilo. aloo parantha and full-fat curd every morning for breakfast. Paneer, paneer, and more paneer at every meal. zillion-course meals at friends' houses, or worse, when I'd allude to something yummy and it would suddenly appear. I really don't understand how I managed to lose weight in India. |

Gained about 10 pounds, that I really didn't need, during January this year in India and wasn't sick one day. Ate plenty of freshly cooked street food but was very careful about water, fresh fruit and vegies. However, on the flight back, I did manage to catch a cough that took two weeks to shake.

I also came home with something like a cold, not a cough, but I can't say I caught it on the flight as it started on the flight snd I am pretty sure there is nothing you can catch so fast.
I thought it might be some kind of adjustment to the less-polluted air at home. |

I lost some weight, not drastic by any means. I attribute it to more fruit and veggies, less deep-frying, and more water than Coke. No sickness at all until burger and fries at the airport on the way home.

Reading this first I had a
moment then a now a hahahaah! I'm afraid I'm still carrying around about 5 lbs of my delhi belly as well. My host sent me home with about 5 lbs of mithai so..uhm...I was obliged to eat it. At least I have a long lasting souvenir I take with me everywhere I go (my gut). C |

Crap! I'm hoping I don't come home with one. I always imagine I'll spend so much time walking that weight will come right off, but I also don't eat tons of amazing meals and snacks and desserts when I'm at home....

My wife and I both lost about 10 kg in India. We got really sick at the beginning of our trip, but most of it was from walking, and walking, and walking. I say lost like I want it back or something...I don't.
Something really changed for me in the way I look at food while I was in India. I only ate when I was hungry and I only ate small portions. It was refreshing to not have to go to a restaurant and be served a heaping plate of food that you couldn't possibly finish, like we do in the west. It's always the same thing, eat less, get plenty of exercise and you'll lose weight. Cheers!

Oh, I agree. You can hardly eat at a normal restaurant in the US without getting enough food for a second meal at home.
