Terrorism, Health in North East

I was wondering if any of ya'll knew if the situation in the far North East (Mizoram). I'm trying to plan a trip to the state next summer simply because it sounds like an awesome place with an awesome culture that's so...un-Indian. City folk there are apparantly very liberal and westernized, and rural people very socially advanced. It should be a very interesting experience. If I can, I'll probably try to illegally cross the border into Burma as well. However I have a safety concern.

I understand that Mizoram is majority Christian and thus they like white people. I plan to take this trip with a white buddy of mine, whom they'll probably assume to be christian. Unfortunately I am not white. I am racially a brown Indian from North India. From what I read, there is a lot of terrorism conducted against brown Indians in the North East.

So I was wondering if anyone here has had some sort of experience with this sort of thing. If this helps, I am a brown, hindi + english speaking male and my friend is a white english speaking male. We are both 17.

Are there any specific tips we should follow to guarantee our safety and good health? Is the North East even developed enough to be visited by foreigners? (I have been to India 5 times, but I get delhi-belly every single time, and my friend has never been to India).

Thanks a lot for your help. I'm looking forward to this trip, but I have to take care of these concerns first.

your post has some parts which need explaining. especially why would two 17 year olds come to a remote part of india, for an un-indian experience, that too with the intention of crossing the border !!

Ummm... dude, you realize that Burma is a hermit kingdom dictatorship? If you get caught crossing the border, they WILL presume that you are spies and WILL (at a minimum) throw you in jail; that is if you don't manage to get yourself shot on the spot by a trigger happy 18 year old soldier. Periodically, the rest of us here will be reading about your fate in the newspaper.

Don't do it. If you want to go to Burma, try to get a visa.
