| It's pretty easy to get hepatitis in India, and there's a big AIDS epidemic there, too -- why take chances? |

| I say its a gr8 idea but u shuld the rite place to get it done... The earliest documented accounts of tattooing in India have been credited to explorer Marco Polo, who saw animal designs tattooed on native skin. From rural dwellers to tribals, from Jaunpur to the Ribari tribe in Kutch, tattoos have long been a cultural phenomenon in India. Then came hordes of celebs who turned them into a fashion statement, even though metro-dwelling bearers of body art risked being termed — according to popular perception — eccentric! One recommendation would be: Michael Cowasji Mike’s Body – Art Studio K-1/68, IIIrd Floor, Chittranjan Park New Delhi – 110019 Phone 011-51603488, Mobile 9811365578 Email mikecowasji@yahoo.com or mike@tattoosbymike.com His site www.tattoosbymike.com is down thesedays. He is widely acclaimed professional and is considered by far the best in Delhi. The cost varies accordingly, anything from Rs 1,500 to Rs 1 lakh for permanent tattoos, and Rs 250 to Rs 36,000 for temporary tattoos, which last for 2-3 weeks. |

| take care, not only the needles are the problem, but also to keep the new tatoo abolutely sterile for a few days... might be a great problem not to get an infection while showering... |

| wanderer | Tattoos Hi Ria, I wouldn't suggest you go for a tatoo...instead you go for Henna...cos its hygenic and you can put it where ever you want and you can get rid of it after some time...it wears off... have a safe and enjoyable stay... Cheers, Venks |

| i can see this is an old post , but i have just had my first tattoo done in India and it was no different than having one done in London or anywhere i have had them previously . Go to reputable tattooist ....( i know a great one based in Varanasi ) and then follow the same common sense as when you have a tattoo in any place ! When the tatoo is first done ,it is covered up at first ,keep it clean , don't expose too much to the sun ,you just wash very gently with soap once a day. Let it heal up naturally and don't pick at it when its healing . if you want the email of my Tattooist friend based in Varanasi , just private msg me and i am happy to pass it on . His name is Dante ,he is from Brazil, speaks fluent English,is a perfectionist ,and is now based in India for the next 5 yrs . ~:-) |

| I agree with <be>.... I also just had a tattoo done in India, a few months ago, and it was no different as to when i got one in the UK. I went to a reputable tattoist, the place was spotless and i made sure that he used new needles on each person. As said, it is covered up when just done, i was given cream from the tattooist to put on it, had to keep it clean, not expose it to the sun too much and leave it to heal. Very happy with it ![]() |

| Lord of Kalinjar | there is a VERY GOOD REASON to get inked in India. they know Indian art much better than most non-Indian locations. Most of the arguments I see here are the usual, don't do anything in India, it's a dirty horrible place, orientalist tripe that smack of racism, though no doubt that will be denied. Most seasoned travelers know how to take care of themselves. Here's the google on Delhi tats: http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid...sults&resnum=1
