Taking Medication Abroad

Just wanted to clarify with anyone out there who is travelling andon medication, I have type 1 diabetes and am going to stay in Delhi for approx 10 months soon. I am only allowed to take 3 months worth of medication with me, so I am left with one of two options. I can either purchase the medication in India which i have looked into, apparently it is widely available but more expensive in India than it is here in the U.K! Or my second option is to get a relative to order my medication here in U.K in 3 monthly cycles and get it sent to me in India and all I would have to pay for is carriage costs. Just wanted to know if having meds sent abroad approx every 3 months is normal procedure and are doctors normally O.K about authorising this??? Would be thankful for any help and advice. CHEERS!
