Strange behaviour whilst taking malaria tablets!!

My travelling partner earl, is behaving wierdly to say the least and i can only put this down to the medication!!

heres some examples.
1. Whilst having to share a double bed, i was woken in a rather abrubt manner, as was sticking his big toe ( or trying to! ) where the sun doesnt shine ie my butt! he claims he was asleep...i hope so. some strange spasms perhaps lol

2. on the train to madras last week he awoke to find himself out of his bunk and snogging the floor, he's been washing his mouth out ever since!!

3. The next night he woke up to find himself naked, luckily the other passengers were asleep........

Is this normal?? anyone got any other weird storys???

thanks Jerry

If he's on larium aka mefloquine, STOP. I've seen people go certifiably bonkers on that crap. If he can afford malarone try it as an alternative.

there is a lot of info on malaria medication here on IM (try using the search function) and on the net generally.
if you are concerned about your mate do some research, and maybe see a doctor - if they are side effects then something needs to be done.
but remember, this isn't a medical forum although it can give you some info and advice and point you in the right direction.
cheers

malaria tablets did affect my dreams also. i had nightmares. so if this is only happening when he's sleeping then it could very well be the tablets (allthough his don't seem quite like a nightmare......?) but i do agree with the previous post about doing some research and seeking medical advice.

LOL, I think people had just skimmed over what you wrote here. My wife would have taken the larium away if I attempted to stick my big toe where the sun don't shine.

Most of the other symptoms just sound like a usual Saturday night if you were a college student.

LOL thats some weird behaviour.........the big toe thing I mean I wonder what freud's explanation would be!!

Seriously though keep an eye on him, I was in Puri when someone using Larium decided to end it all with a 6 month supply of Larium, the aftermath was pretty horrible even though he lived!!

There are a lot of stories like this about the drug, which is probably why people seem a bit serious on the subject!!

I think India in combination with malaria medication makes you act really weird. I took some other malaria medication during my first trip there, not as strong as larium, but I still experienced strong anxiety and made me have weird thoughts. but it might have been just India or other substances I was taking ...

Mike's butt is ok, although sometimes it deserves a kick...

I only took malaria medication during my first trip, during my last trip I took none, but I was paranoid like hell that I might get malaria, so I made sure I put a large quantity of odomos on my skin in the areas that I thought might be malaria.
