lassi = cooling drink made with yoghurt. 3 main kinds.. Sweet, salty, and bhang. Stick with the first two and you'll be fine. Are you a west coast sailor? Wanderer22 |

I've been having a bit of Quality Toilet Time recently - it always happens when I come to Delhi.
I'm eating plain curd and rice, drinking lots of water and getting the odd ORS down my neck. It's not too bad, really. I've still been able to get out and about - it's not one of those nasty ones that confines you to your room. Got a long train trip later today, though, so could do without it right now.

I've cured myself.
Half a bottle of Old Monk rum, a couple of Kingfisher's and a Tandoori Rockfish did the trick. Not what most doctors would prescribe, admittedly, but it seems to have worked. ![]() |

During my month in Chennai I had no digestive problems whatsoever (other than my inability to eat fried food, but that's another story). Maybe it was the probiotics I took everyday (Enzymatic Therapy brand), or the lassis and curd, who knows? But if you use probiotics, make sure they dissolve in your intestine, not your stomach. more effective that way.
contrary to what I've read about everyone's delhi belly, dysentary, whatever, here on IM, many of the people I was with had the opposite problem in India -- CONSTIPATION! If anyone has that problem, a good remedy is Laxa-Tea by Himalaya Herbal. I heard it works like a charm. |

stomach upsets
I've been reading about everyone's ideas about how to deal with gut problems.
Here's my plan: My homeopath will be preparing a package of remedies and instructions to deal with such problems. This treatment system acts as a catalyst to help the body heal itself. Can be used for insect bites and all sorts of other ailments. The remedies are very specific so you should get the info from a homeopathic physician. Apparently some of the best homeopaths and homeopathic hospitals are in India. I'd avoid the toxic chemical treatments if possible. |

The hard thing is to decide if its:
Ordinary due to change of food. Temporary, the symptom is the cure even if nasty even in adults, baccillary. Dangerous, amoebic, etc. where letting it go will really do severe harm. None of this applies to children where even baccillary can quickly dehydrate a child.. |

I am seeing all this advise to swig down a few lassies and curds but I am lactose intolerant...so the thought of yogurty indian treats does not sound tempting to me.
Has anyone ever brought power bars or granola for their trip? Is this a silly idea...because it's sounding good to me right now ![]() |
