Stomach Problems
Hey Folks,
I am planning a return to India. Last time we were there we met up with some people we knew from the UK. One of them had tablets which he claimed sterilised his stomache. This enabled him to eat/drink absolutely anything, whilst we were very careful (bordering on paranoid) about eating from street vendors, drinking juices etc.,. We never fell ill or had any problems at all but he seemed to have more culinary fun than us. One tablet a day after an evening meal. He got them from a Doctor friend here in the UK. Anyone know what these types of thing are called, if they have a brand name and if they are available in India or the UK from a chemist? Thanks. |

Sounds like good old Norit to me? Just a household remedy mind, nothing to rely on. I don't believe in anything to safeguard you btw (nor in undue paranoia regarding foodstuffs).

Sounds like Snake Oil Extract to me

Now here is an odd one that has some support, Pepto Bismo before the meal coats the lining and also helps with heartburn. There is a Cholera med that does help with some varieties of Traveller's Belly. Really, its just a matter of luck and mood that interplay to produce resistance. Then there are the folk remedies that may make you feel safe. I take Acidopholus..

A friend of mine swears by charcoal tablets. I've never tried them myself, but he's certainly used them for years and never suffered any stomache problems.
