Hi there,
What I need is a little Diagnosis from someone if possible. Almost since the first day I landed in India, I have terrible somach-cramps while doing my buissness on the toilet... I first thought, that I just needed some time to get adjusted to the food here, but it won't get better. Also, about a week ago I have been sick, with dirreah and neausea, a little fever and general stomach pain/cramps... This is better now, but the the problem with the stomach cramps while on toilet and a general feeling of fatigue remains... Has anyone an idea what this is, and what I can do about it? It really starts to annoy me and makes it difficult to enyoy my stay. Of cource I would really appreciate it, if someone can offer some help! thanks |

Head for a doctor's surgery rather than an internet cafe!
Seriously; how do people expect internet diagnosis? You can take your pick: homeopathic, ayurvedic, allopathic and probably a dozen others. It probably won't cost much more than an internet session, there will be a pharmacy just a few doors away if you need it. Look after yourself properly: get professional advice ![]()

For me my cramps turned out to be giardia. It is a very cramping constant feeling above the stomach but below the chest. So high on the stomach area. And it will only go away if you get the right medicine from the doctor.
I'm not a doctor though. So off you go ![]()

Thanks for the advice... I dont know why, but I always wait until I feel really ill before I see a doctor
.Anyway, I went to a Pharmacy and told the guy behind the counter my problems. He then gave me some kind of powder and six pills which I should take. He didnt told me what they actually do, but I believe (at least the powder) are for rehydration. Im feeling already much less tired , and Im confident that the other problems will disappear as well. Oh, it feels so good to be back on a normal energy level, I should probably go to the pharmacy again tomorow and give this pharmacy-guy a present! |

Rogoshin, do you only have cramps in the morning? Have they mysteriously disapeared for a few days to come back with a vengance? If so, it's likely that you have giardia like jgv said. You should go to a doctor, they can have it cured in a few days which is better than waiting for a few weeks to a few months for it to go away.

@AllanM
I definttely suffered from dehydration. I fell so much better now, and the cramps have almost disappeared also. What I like to know though, is what you can do to prevent dehydration. I know, drinking a lot of water... but I actually tired to drink a sufficient amount of water and I still suffered from dehydration. The bottled water here, it contains no bacteria and viruses and so, but it does also not contain all the good stuff you get normally from drinking water, like minerals and so. This can be a problem to I guess. However, thanks for your help. |

Hi there,
I work in exercise rehabilitation so i deal with this a lot. especailly in the hotter climates. You should probably drink about 1 litre of water to every 25kg of body weight - i know this sounds like a lot of water but its true. That old saying of 8 glasses a day is actually untrue (but better than nothing) as we are all such different sizes. I understand it can be a nuisance (i really can't spell) but whats more of a nuisance - having to drink boring water or feeling unwell? If you really feel dehydrated then you should probably avoid alcohol and caffein. take care om ambika |
