steripen --> amoeba?

hello

just wondering if anyone else has had trouble using steripen. i was diagnosed with enteamoeba histolica a week ago in india, now on dyrade medication an getting better.

as i've been quite careful with food i think it must be the drinking water that's contaminated me. i've been using steripen traveller, which, judging by all the information provided by both users and the manufaturer, seem very reliable BUT: i failed to wipe the unpurified water threads from the inside neck of the bottle, and that's what i think caused me to get the parasite.

the steripen web page does mention that the water drop should be wiped off, but it didn't cross my mind (lots of people brush their teeth using tap water and by that way are bound to swallow a couple of drops).

learnt my lesson.

would be curious to know if anyone has had similar experiences.

? No experience with the steripen, but seems to me something you ate may as well have been it.

(If you think a few drops of water on the bottle could have caused it -- and I'm not saying it couldn't have --, how are you gonna control what's in your food no matter how careful you are?)

Anyway, wishing you a speedy recovery then

Not saying it can't be that one drop of water that was not treated and got back in the bottle but just like machadinha, I'd put my money on something you ate. It's always a crapshoot, even if you're careful. My worst time ever sickness in India was in 2000, the day after a dinner in a 5* hotel.....

Then again I've had food at roadside dhaba's where the germs probably ran screaming from the kitchen when they noticed the mess and didn't have any problems. My private and totally subjective food tip: stick to veg food, I think you'll have better chances then.

The time between contact and symtoms is hours to days : there is no practical way of knowing what hit us , until we are in a fairly sizable group with similar experience.

My guess is its food or dishes or many other possibilities as "the germ theory is relative in India". Don't be be foolish about the treatment as its serious and the disease can damage the liver. No freakin' faith healing homo stuff. This one takes a completed regimine of serious medicine. Been there, done that. Don't repeat my mistakes. I got mine from Hong Kong & have no idea from what..

The orientation of your doc makes a difference?

Any half-decent practitioner will tell a person if what they have requires some other form of treatment. I'd readily agree that there are far too many sub-decent ones.

Yes, and some of them will become ill because of it.

As others have said, it's next to impossible to pin down the causes of these illnesses, but it makes sense to minimise the risks wherever reasonably possible.
