Skin problems

As lots of travellers get skin problems related to heat and humidity, calcium helps. Shelcal 500 is available in India, 15 tablets cost about 37 Rupees (depending on state taxes...) - also a good gift for mothers and grandmothers at home....

I love some humidity! I know there are some problems with prickly heat, rash etc, but coming from a very dry climate my skin feels fantastic after a few days in a humid climate.

?

take a shower(assuming clean water) twice a day and you should be fine.

a lot of the damage to skin can also becuse of improper exposure to the sun. some skin applications that you use at home may be inappropriate for the climate in other parts f the world so factor that as well. the humid climate actaully helps the skin stay healthy.

I suffer from prickly heat, mainly across my chest and sometimes on my ears, I would welcome any suggestions on how to prevent this. I have tried the usual prevention/cures i.e. sunblock, covering up, antihistimines (sp) and canistan as well as a powder I once purchased in India but nothing yet has worked. I am going to spend xmas and newyear in Goa and I really need to spend sometime just lying in the sun and dont really want to coverup so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Julie

Prickly heat

Julie,
try calcium. Shelcal 500 is helping me for years even that I do not need other tablets and the last visit to a doctor was years back. Ears - this could have to do with glasses which might lead to allergic reactions.

Any more on prickly heat??
I'm stuffed with it at the moment and can't seem to find any info on it It's bloody annoying. I've tried powder,lotion,anti-histamine and took 5 days of antibiotics as I read there was a viral infection involved.

covering up probably wont help. prickly heat is caused by sweat and grime, basically your pores get blocked up when sweat cant evaporate due to humidity and they get covered in oils etc (either from your skin or the environment) or dirt.
you would probably be better off wearing loose fitting light coloured clothes and trying to keep your skin dry and free of grime.
sunblock will almost certainly make it worse.
try to wipe off sweat, with a towel, or scarf or something, and try wiping the worst affected areas with a.... not sure what youd call them, in oz they are wet ones, you might call them baby wipes or something. and take a couple of showers a day.

Thanks Sticky, The experts don't seem to know what causes the pores to block. I've been here nearly 4 months now. Apparently the time spent in hot climes doesn't make any difference. Never had prickly heat before. I haven't felt excessively hot or been sweating too much for long spells,so I don't know where to start I take plenty of showers so I'm not a dirty geezer
I'm still seraching the web now

You can get "Fresh Ones Wet Wipes" in any big Chemist Shop or Superstore in India - Comes in 2/3 fragrances - Lime, Cologne are 2 i know of.
Those who are using Lacto Calamine Lotion for soothing should rather use Caladryl Lotion (which is only Calamine and no Milk) coz thats much more soothing.
In case of Prickly heat powders use plain powders instead of those with fragrances like Cologne, Sandal etc. as the skin becomes very delicate and even these fragrances can harm or delay the cure
