Side Effects of Vaccines

I'm going to be getting the usual set of vaccinations soon:

- Hep A and B

- Typhoid

- DTP

and of course Malaria tablets will be ordered also.

I was wondering if anyone has had any adverse side effects after getting the vaccination shots?

Also, do Malaria tablets have adverse side effects in general? I vaguely remember various people I knew in the past complaining about Malaria tablets, but I can't quite recall how bad it was.

I remember my arm hurt like hell after getting typhoid jab and also rabies but it soon passed after a day. I've never taken malaria tabs but understand certain ones can be quite unpleasant - I'm sure this has been discussed at length here in previous posts.
The malaria tabs that don't have side effects are Malarone but is v expensive.

I took the oral vaccine for typhoid which is a 4 dose package. If I recall, you take one every other day. After the third dose, I felt a little queasy, but nothing that would make me stay in bed or anything like that, I just took it easy.

typhoid shots are always a pain, that's just the nature of tbe beast. A nurse told me it's because of the solution the vaccine is in or some such thing.

I've never had any reactions to anything else (other than the queasiness), nor did I have any side effects whatsoever to Malarone, which was the malaria med I took.

do a search here on Larium and you will find the side effects that people complain about.

Thanks for the info both of you.

There's one thing I never thought about. Can all these vaccinations be administered simultaneously? I mean, say I get Hep A+B, Typhoid and DTP all at the same time, isn't that a bit heavy on the body?

All of the Malaria tablets can cause side-effects, it all depends upon you... I am afraid you will have to try them and see what happens. I take Malarone and my sister takes Larium and neither of us have suffered any side effects yet.

With regards to the Jabs again it depends, some people have no effects ... With me the Hib A/B (Twinrix) upset my tummy 2 days after the jab and caused me to spend a night sat on the loo, but other than that nothing. (A small price to pay, think what it must be like to get one of these illnesses!)

Alright, good info!

The side effects don't sound bad at all. Indeed, sure beats actually getting typhoid, hep or anything else!

Probably they are in an oily solution, which always hurts.

I wouldn't take them all simultaniously. Space them out, a week apart at least.

I don't remember any of the vaccines hurting.

But it was a long time ago, and I really should go through it all again...

Vaccinations can hurt , but somehow (it's probably the little female devil in me) it's always the men who feel the pain .

About side-effects: it's all about your personal health status and condition and sensitivity.
The diseases you can be protected for are real serious ones, so please let your own doctor advice what will be best for you

That really looks like a good schedule. I have less than 5 weeks till I fly though (April 13). I have an appointment with a doctor this Wednesday, I'll see what he proposes.

What is Men ACWY if I may ask?

The nurse who did my last batch told me that the only way it would hurt was if she hit a nerve. She'd already done that once that day --- with one of the practice doctors!--- and it was statistically unlikely she'd do it again for a while. I didn't feel a thing.

Those of us who grew up in the 1950s (or before) will remember the re-usable, heavy-gauge needles in use at that time: well blunt by the time they reached our skin. The penecillin (it was a thick goo in those days, too) and tetanus injections I had after schoolboy injuries were enough to make me hit the roof. The routine innoculations were pretty bad. I don't think my unconcious has ever forgotten it. But the present-day reality is that fine, sharp, single-use needles really don't hurt --- men or women!

Nick, do! I'm also long overdue - and I'm going tomorrow!

Then I can tell you all first hand how it feels

So, I had a Hep B shot yesterday and no pain or side effects whatsoever.

I will get other vaccines - he spaced them all out two weeks apart.
