shots? pills?
I leave for India and 2 weeks and have been back and forth on getting shots..it may be pointless to go get them now but what is the general consensus on getting them? are they imperative? are malaria pills essential?

i have never taken pills or had shots and i have been to different parts of asia about 10 times. i spent 2 years in india, once, and i did get malaria. luckily, not one that i couldn't get rid of.
if you are worried about getting diseases/illnesses then it is probably best to take the precautions, although malaria pills can have dire side effects and i was told of someone who took the malaria pills and still got malaria. |

margeeee there are lots of threads you can read and get lots of different opinions on as far as shots and antimalaria medications (use the search option in the main menu above). If you are still unsure I would call and ask your doctor their opinion. Personally, I don't recommend it. I have a friend from DC coming here to visit me for 2 weeks and not advised her to get any shots/pills. Take general precautions to keep from getting bit as far as the mosquitos are concerned. I got malaria only after I had been here for almost 3 years and I don't take any precautions. I had an alergic reaction to the quinine in the medicine and that is the main reason I don't recommend taking it. The medication is hard on the liver and different people react differently.
Hope you have a great trip. |

There's always room for something specific, although this forum cannot be an alternative to qualified medical advice. However, the answer to a question as general as this has to be: it's pretty much here already, please don't expect people to type it out yet again! You can start with the threads listed at the bottom of this page. Thread closed. |
