It's one of my main reasons for going to India, first thing i do on arrival in Delhi is head straight for the barbers & come out with a face like a babies bum (a clean 1 that is!) KK

A lady can get a head massage in a barber shop if the barber isn't too old, they use a different kind of conditioner or whatever than the ladies do, very invigorating.

well their work is indeed very clean....it must be giving a very smooth finishing....tho I have never tried a shave at a barber I always have that blade experience for the back neck and near the ears....

but I am overly skeptical about thier practise and carry my own blade....he uses the half of it and eventually he gets the other half . May be some time I will try a shave from my barber back home...feeling smooth on your cheeks and specially at the neck is a nice! . I have never been able to make it smooth with Gillette ready shavers.

hey btw how is the electric shaver...does it work well without giving rashes on the skin. I have never tried it. But some friends say its not good for the skin...and the ones with a rotatory blades makes ur beard extra curly .. Is it??

TBH I have never really liked the rotary Philishave I have been using for the past few years (I'm goimg to make it last another year or so, but not spend money on new blades for it). Over the years I've used Braun and Philishave, and prefer Braun. I never got skin rashes from the Braun, but do from the Philishave unless I'm very gentle.

Curliness depends on the follicle: it works like extrusion moulding, doesn't it?

I'm sure a blade gives a better shave. But if you are not used to it it is painful!

Razor shaving is very common thing.Don't worry about it. Barbars nowadays don't use ancient type of razors.Basically they use a half blade holder for shaving and change after every shave merely charge Re.1/- extra for that.

after many years of having a beard, I had my first shave in Varanasi. I went to a barber shop first - the full works - 20Rs.

following that I visited a barber on the ghats - no shop - 5Rs max.

I had to laugh when I told the barber on the ghats to just shave my cheeks and leave a goaty. "aah, no problem - French cut" Shame I didn't have my beret, or striped top or a baguette to carry with me....

A head massage with Navartna oil on a hot summer day is pure nirvana. You walk out of the barbershop feeling like you have an ice pack on your head

oh that magic oil.... tho never tried it myself but heard a lot from my freinds about its effects. They used to put it to keep the head cool during the exam preparations.......eventually they ended up with a sound sleep

and its TV commercial was also kinda catchy ....Govinda used to do that..quite funny

btw has anyone tried the barbers at Tirupati. A friend who returned balded told how unique the system is. They seem to have managed it well owing to the loads of ppl wanting to go bald. They have some coupon system and you have to walk in a gang of barbers, find the one mentioned, and get ur things done... this system is kinda interesting, yes.

It is indeed alum. Barbers use it as it is a very good disinfectant for any cuts or, err... nicks that you might get during the shave.
