Sending medicines to India?

Does any one know if its possible to send small quantities of basic medicines through the post from the UK to India. A friend of mine runs an orphanage and finds it very hard to get some simple medicines in India(Diarrhoea tablets for one!).
I dont want them confiscated by customs or import duties charged
Thanks for any advice

This is very strange.

Basic medicines are, of course, available here. Probably manufactured here. Of course diarrhoea medications are available.

As Nick says, such medicines are freely available in India, and at extremely low prices compared to what we are used to paying in the west. Sorry, but I do not believe your friend for a moment.

Stretching credulity to the limit and giving him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps he means that his orphanage does not have sufficient funds to purchase the medicine...

India is knee-deep in pharmas and such, effectively subsidised and very cheap by the standards of I believe any other country.

Maybe something was lost in translation with your friend. As others have very discreetly implied, perhaps your friend is not the friend you imagine.
