Seafood question
I know the precautions about eating certain foods. What I haven't heard was info on seafood. Is it usually safe to eat? I love seafood and can't wait to try it in India. I know not to eat ice cubes, stay away from meat, don't go to street vendors blah blah blah! Any suggestions on MILD seafood dishes in the South?

Eating seafood is fine in India. Prawns, fish, mussels, I've had em all without a problem.
Ask to see the fish if you're worried. Frequent restaurants that are busy and you'll have no problems. Less busy restaurants might hang on to the fish that one day too many. I've eaten loads and loads of fish in Palolem like 7/8 times a week no problem!! By the way the meat in India if fine too, much of it is way fresher than you get at home. Chicken and mutton are a big part of Indian cuisine and it would be a shame to miss out. Street vendors I use a lot too but perhaps that's not a good idea for the first timer in India!! Wait a while until you've picked up some antibodies Happy Traveling ![]() |

The only thing with seafood, anywhere, not just in India, is to be aware of the waters it's fished from. If the waters are polluted then you could have a problem. I was a little worried after I ate some clams we'd gathered along the shore in Goa and had them cooked in a shack. I was thinking, I shouldn't be eating these
but it was OK, they were lovely.Only eat seafood near the coast. ![]()

It should be fine as long as you have had your Hepatitis A vaccine. Having said that, I got the most horrific food poisoning in Morocco from a seafood paella. After that experience I dont eat seafood when I travel. In india I found loads of fabulous vegetarian options so I didnt miss the seafood!
