Reputable pharmacists in India

I'm looking to buy some generic drugs from India when I go there during my visit. Which pharmacy do you recommend in Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata to make sure what I'm buying is real? In some countries, it's safer to buy your medicines from a chain drugstores.

There is such a thing as fake drugs (ie with no active ingreient whatsoever) in India. This is not so common that we worry on a daily-shopping basis.

I was talking to a doctor the other day who practices regularly in UK. He said that, when prescribing, he prefers to specify the manufacturer as well as naming the drug. He also told me that for certain drugs (not to be taken as a general rule) he increases the dosage as he knows the Indian-manufactured version to be of a lower effective potency.

Actually I've seen two doctors this week! From my own doctor (who also works every year as a British NHS consultant, and even does teaching work there) came the confirmation that he would recommend long-termers in my situation that diagnosis and treatment is the way to go for malaria... not taking prophylaxis on a long-term basis.

A breath of fresh air Nick.

not taking prophylaxis on a long-term basis.

The prophylaxis are worse than the cure. Blood tests are readily available.

There is a book at pharmcists available, if you persist, describing all the manufacturers/ costs of medicines.
