Red Alert Terrorist Threat??

The Canadian Government foreign affairs office says in their most recent travel advisory that there is a "red alert" in New Delhi and other major Indian cities and that "public markets are closed" and that locals are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel etc. Our plane leaves this Friday for New Delhi. Should we be trying to change our flight for tickets to New Zealand???? Can anybody on the ground in New Delhi give us an update?? thanks.

Life has returned to normal. Delhites have returned bravely to their normal life & have defeated the terrorists's intention to terrorise.
It is not possible to predict which place will be absolutely safe when.
Good luck.

I write to you, sitting here at my workstation at my office in Kalkajee (close to where the blast in the Bus took place)

Life is back to normal..we are a nation of people that have held together through such acts for many years and continue to do so!

There is nothing abnormal here, the usual hustle bustle as people go about enjoying the festival!

Suggest you stick to your plan and enjoy the country to the max!

Cheers and Bon Voyage,

Rohan

BBCWorld has given a little different kind of view.
Saying streets and markets are rather quiet...
But in a liveinterview from Delhi today, there were lots of fireworks going on in the background, which seemed rather ironic.

I lost my interest in travelling because of the last Saturday in India, both South and North.
But after seeing some photos from India today here in IM, I'm beginning to recover. So thanks to all who have posted pictures.

I'm booked to fly to India in 10 days and, like everyone else, had to consider whether I'd change my plans. But I decided that I would still go as things to appear to be getting back to 'normal'. We cannot let the terrorists 'win'. And with the increased police presence at tourist sites and public places, now is possibly a 'safer' time to travel. But of course, we are monitoring the situation......

Mike and I are going to India in December for about 4 months. even with all events and all we are not changing our plans. I asked Mike if we should avoid Pahar Ganj and he says there is no need. I am still cautious about Pahar Ganj though and I will only be happy once we leave Pahar Ganj healthy.
I will try to convince him to stay somewhere else.

the Delhi events are unfortunate to happen. So are the Bali events, the 9/11, the London bombs, the Tsunami, etc. but all these didn't stop thousands of adventurous people to travel.

I say go ahead and travel, but be cautious and stay away from extremely crowded places, although it is very hard to do that in India
