Ranthambore Fort
hi ,
in the 3rd dayin India, while visiting Ranthambore Fort , my gitrlfriend got a monket bite. Take care of those monkeys, after thatexperience I would recomand not to feed those monkeys. My girlfriend had some food in her hand and the monkey jumped and bite her mand. In no more then one hour she got the first antirabies vaccination in Sawai Madhopur Hospital (actualy the hospital very near Ranthambore ). She got the newest vaccin, verorab or something from Aventis Pasteur Instituite. Next day we meet a doctor in Jaipur , and he reccomanded a second shot in the second day and also immunoglobine. She did it also, and a bust for tetanous also. Because I got in touch with the wound the doctor recomanded me to do prevention..so I got one vaccination also. Yesterady I met a nice Australian guy who gave me a book about rabies an so. I found that taking antimalarian pils could block the antirabic vaccination to work . our antimalarian pils contains chloroquine phosphat and prouguanil (savarine). Chloroquine phosphat is the one that do the problem with antirabic vaccin. We switch on Doxicicline immidiatly . All I can do now is to hope that everithing will be Ok. I read about the 30 years old woman from UK, who died because rabies in Goa, and I'm not sure if she got the vaccination in time. in case someboady knows something more, or can recommand a good doctor doctor in Jodhpur, please let me know. Thanx. |

It is time the Indian authorities did something about the monkey menace.
All over the country they have been allowed to breed like "rabbits" and we can see the results. I remember visiting Kasauli about 6 years ago and there were very few monkeys, I visited last year and they were everywhere. |

You've acted quickly and done the right thing so you both should be fine.
This is a growing problem, especially in North India, and it's always advisable when around monkeys to keep your food well hidden in a bag or backpack, although some smarter monkeys are learning about this too. A couple of years ago in Bharatpur I saw a monkey jump up on a female tourists backpack and it wouldn't let go until I threatened it with a stick. Have a good look around before you have a picnic.
