Rabies???

We are heading to India for 2 months from March to May and are considering having rabies vaccinations. We need 3 vaccinations and at $110 each I'm not too keen on forking out the money if it is unnecesary.

What do you think about rabies vaccinations? Are they necessary?
thanks for your help!!

Unless you're going way way way off the beaten track then most people don't bother, any suspect dog would be killed by locals immediately it showed signs, Bats & Monkeys.Ummm, take your chance.

If you put 'rabies' in our search box theres a couple of threads.

I was worried about this went I went this year as I was going to be spending time with womeone who looks after street dogs in Chennai.

She assured me that it is very rare there.

I was born and raised in India and no one ever had vaccinations against rabies. IF you are bitten by a rabid animal, THEN and only THEN have the ANTI rabies injections, yup ! had 3 sets of these, 14 shots around the belly button, one per day, now reduced to something far less dramatic. It's not a serious threat and certainly nothing to worry about so don't blow valuable Rupees on this, just be vigilant. Warren Abbott in sunny Florida wbabbott@juno.com
