Hello Goan Dentist, very ineresting and informative thread.
I was born in an area where there was too much flouride in drinking water which resulted in very strong but discoloured teeth. Would it be true that whitening treatments would not work for me, as these are not stains? How long would veneers last? Thanks |

Flouride Discolouration of Teeth
Quote:
Too much Flouride in the water will cause white patches on the teeth also known as mottled enamel. Whitening is not the right procedure for you to have. For some time now the only option was to have crowns or veneers depending on the state of the teeth. Today the most conservative treatment availabe is by using a product called Tooth Mousee. Its a paste that needs to be applied to the teeth for about 5 min everyday and it puts back Calcium and Phosphate into the teeth in a process called Re-Mineralisation. In lay terms it means regenerating some part of the tooth . It removes white spots caused by Flourosis and I would recommend that you ask your dentist more about it. Veneers generally last 5 - 10 years after which they may need to be replaced due to marginal discolouration that can occur over a period of time. I have seen people with veneers lasting them over 20 years , so its more upto you as to how you maintain your oral hygiene. Regards |

Bridge
Hi Goandentist
I am currently undergoing some investigative work for something that has been found (via xrays) lodged in my sinus (a 'piece of instrument' left over from a root canal apparently ). Anyway, one of the xrays shows that one of the teeth holding my bridge on is decaying and i will at some point in the future need a new bridge, alas the decaying tooth has already had quite a lot of restorative work so it seems that particular tooth is no longer a contender for holding a new bridge in place. Roughly how much would it cost and how long would it take to get a new bridge fitted and sort out the decaying tooth if I had everything done in India? My current bridge fills the gap left by one tooth. And is it worth it to procur my xrays from my London dentist so I can bring them to India? Thanks! |

Hi Lowis,
An instrument in the sinus huh !! not a pleasant thought. It wont be too difficult to get it out, but make sure an Oral surgeon does it. As far as the decay on the bridge , have you seen the possibility of getting the bridge out now. I know its a difficult job, but it can be given a try in the hope of trying to restore the tooth now. Have you thought about this ... if you loose the tooth holding the bridge you loose a vital support. If you dont have another tooth that can be used to support the bridge , the only option would be to have an implant supported bridge. Try all means to restore that tooth, thats the best way forward. Its best to bring your X-rays with you to show the dentist in india. Best wishes |

hey goan dentist
the consultant i saw at Eastman's last week already thinks the tooth is beyond hope, he has referred my xrays back to my rubbish dentist! grrrrreat. it has already been hacked down and 'restored' once and i think it must have a root canal to as i can't feel any pain at all, which I am guessing i should do if it is badly decayed? anyway am seriously condiering getting work done in India, have emailed my HR director to ask if my dental insurance will accept an insurance claim for work done in India. do you have a 'ballpark' figure for a bridge? just so i can get saving ![]() thank you! |

Finding a dentist
My wife is planing to have surgery in India soon, I was thinking of having some dentistry done while we are there. We have not selected the hospital yet but I was interested in how to find a dentist who handles international patients.

Hi there,
Its best to find a dentist close to where your wife is being operated, obviously for logistic reasons. There are a few dentists who specialise in International patients. Look for dentists who promote dental tourism. These surgeries are up to the mark and conform to international levels of dental treatment. Regards |

Thank you for your answer. We shopping all around for the best hospital. Can you tell me, are there any hospitals in Goa that cater to international patients?

Thank you for the info. We have contacted an Apollo Hospital in Delhi, (I think). I will send them an email to see if they will send me back to the first place we contacted or if they want our business.

My recommendation would be Apollo Victor as well in Margao Goa. As a holiday cum medical tourism destination, Goa would be the perfect choice. Have seen many hospitals flying patients to Goa from Delhi and Bombay after major surgeries so you can recouperate in this natural heaven !!

Are you open in May?
Hi,
I am looking to get some dental work done in Goa in May. I will be arriving around the 18th or 19th of May. Will your office still be open? If not can you recommend another dentist? Thanks, Dave |

I arrive in Anjuna in October and I can't afford dental work in the UK. I was wondering as I have had many of my molars removed, I want to have repairs on my front teeth. How much is it for a cap (gold and white) as I have damaged my front tooth badly in an accident. I also want the rest of my front teeth capped/bridged. I would be very grateful if you could give me the price range on this type of work.
Many thanks, Stephen. BTW where are you situated? P.S. My confidence would be so much better with the aesthetic work I need doing. If I have an idea of the price I know how much I have to save ![]() Shanti shanti ![]() |

Hi Stephen,
Yes dentistry is expensive in the UK and the rest of Europe. I have sent you a private message. IM'ers are reminded not to ask for appointments or prices from me on this forum as the thread is only to answer your dental problems. Regards |
