Almost everywhere I've been in India, posters offering help for disorders of the lower bowel are common:

It's probably because of a change in lifestyle of the upwardly mobile middle class. On my recent travels in India I didn't see a single Indian style toilet - all the hotels I stayed in had Western style toilets and I would guess that many Indians are installing them in their own homes. Would any Indian member on the forum care to comment on this fascinating subject? I bet your average Indian villager doesn't have these problems! |

Changing Life style - definately yes... Changing eating habbits with easy life style, less of physical activity is one main reason. Incidently I have seen these advts more in Northern India. The walls around Delhi railway station and the track upto Chandigarh and eastwards towards Aligarh, Lucknow is full of these advts.

I almost begged the question about changing lifestyle in this post, but I'm still not convinced it's the whole story.
I mean, are doctor's waiting rooms in Europe full of people wanting treatment for piles, fissures and fistula? Perhaps any GPs who are reading this forum could correct me, but I would think there were some, but not as many as seem to be needing treatment in India. Another theory: it's such an embarrassing complaint for the average Indian that they would rather visit someone outside their neighbourhood, a poster advertiser who may or may not actually help them, than go to a local health centre or doctor. Obesity (on the rise in India, I'm sure of that) is a significant factor in perdisposing someone to p, f and f. Or are Indians already a bit weak in this critical area of the body due to genes? |

Not sure about the body genes but incorrect posture is one of the main culprit. |
