Price of malaria tablets

Anyone any idea how much a 6 month supply would be, are they expensive? I'll be in India and South East Asia.

Consult with a doctor who is familiar with your medical history and has some experience/knowledge of tropical diseases. Get a recommendation, then post again, asking about the specific drug that he/she suggests.

I've been wondering about this too - anyone know the cost of doxycycline tablets? Can't remember the dosage but just a rough idea would be great

i just went to the travel clinic here -- they don't recommend doxy since they said it has a bunch of side effects and isn't too effective. there was one (forgot the name) which is a once weekly tablet, but apparently has some psych side effects . so they recommend malranone -- there is no generic, and it's a once daily tablet, so i am guessing it will be expensive. anyone know how expensive? anyone in the US? is it cheaper in Canada?

I think you are talking about Larium, with the side effects..I would not take that one..We are taking Malarone, but they are very expensive..They are about $5.00 Canadian per pill and you have to start taking them one day before arriving, then everyday you are there, and then 1 week after leaving..Supposedly, they have the lease side effects..Lucky for us, our medical plan covered 85% so we only had to pay $25.00 CAD each as opposed to $125.00 CAD each..

I bought 100 tablets of Doxycycline in New Delhi a year ago -- for about US$8.

You can Google for it and see what the side effects are; I had no problems with it.

Must get down to my GP and see what the jazz is, can you get a jab instead of taking the tablets?

The malarone is about $5 US also so it appears to not be any cheaper in Canada. My insurance company suprisingly covered it though, the doctor said that they probably wouldn't, so it is worth maybe looking into.

You can buy Paludrine in Delhi if you are willing to put some effort into looking for it. The active ingredient (proguanil) is the same main ingredient in Malarone. I thought $5 a pill was a bit out of line so I decided to try to buy it in Delhi (my insurance wouldn't cover it at home). You will not find Malarone in Delhi, but if you ask enough chemists in touristy areas you will find real branded Paludrine made by AstraZeneca. I paid $3 US for 4 weeks supply.

Hi all,

I bought today Malarone in Spain, the price for a box containing 12 pills is 55.85 Euros, almost 5 Euros per pill. I've got some discount, because I was taking 6 boxes.

The ingredients are: Atovacuona (250 mg) and Proguanil (100mg).

All antipaludics are not advisable for long treatments because the side effects.

I called a few pharmacies today for doxy pricing. The best that I came up with was for 42 tablets, 100mg/tablet for $33.61 Canadian + tax.
