Another tip on preventing infections is not to berate the wait staff unneccessarily before you get served. I used to wait tables as a student in the 70s, many a steak got the "special" sauce reserved for obnoxious customers!

camelgirl...

A round eye is an anglo-saxon - esp. in an Asian nation.

kalbarri...

True, I've been 'innoculated'. But, I use the term 'must have' in the context of consumerism (ie 'must have the latest 'whatever'), be it ipad, satnav, superwipe, etc. etc. For me a 'must have' is something that has a factor that one parades in front of others. So, not sure that an innoculation can be associated as a 'must have'.

BULLDOG...

What was the secret ingredient in your "special" sauce?

I've noticed people showing off theri cars, their clothes, their sunglasses, even maybe their backpacks. Perhaps I just didn't look in the right place, but somehow I never noticed anybody parading their wipes!

Nick-H

People 'parade' their wipes merely by using them in public (over in private).

As an example, last month my wife & I were in Myanmar. There, few can afford lipsticks. After applying her lipstick, my wife was often asked if she would 'give' it to the asker. So, we (the relatively affluent) may not notice a seemingly basic task of using wipes as 'parading', but doing it in public in front of those without access will certainly be perceived by them as 'parading'.

How about the clothes you wear, then. Camera? sunglasses? shoes?

By your latest logic, all that non-Indian stuff which might cause a twinge of envy could be called "parading."

There may well be some benefit to using antiseptic wipes or waterless wash; there is unlikely to be any harm. If you don't like it, don't do it, but the way that you have criticised others over this is absurd.

Uh oh!! Drinking pee may be some peoples idea of purification http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urine_therapy, however, I'd rather eat a wipe. Glad they caught this guy!

In any desperately poor country where people have little more than the clothes on their back, like it or not, the very existence of a foreign tourist is a parade of all things they don't have access to. Yes, I've been to Burma (before wipes were invented), lovely people, hideous government.

Nick - H

"...but the way that you have criticised others over this is absurd."

Sorry, I thought I was contributing as a sociological perception.

You are right, in the way I see things affluence displayed in a lower socio-economic place is parading. But my later comments re: 'parading' in a sociological context were in reply to your post #743.

I wonder if the subject of Hitanshu's post is akin to BULLDOG's "special sauce"?

hey guys I know this is way late in the thread but I am really paranoid about stomach infection for my trip to India. I didn't see this thread until now and I will be in Mumbai on June 9th! I will be in India until early August.

Do you think I still have time for the probiotics? I also heard about Neem on here, but I think i will have to order it online.

It seems there were a lot of suggestions in this thread and I didn't know if it's safe to take so many things at once? What do you guys think?

I would really appreciate any advice!

what things do you mean that are taken all at once? may i suggest that not everyone gets these problems so if you are out for adventure, don't spoil it by being paranoid about illnesses
can't help you with the info on medications as i never take any when i go to india or anywhere else in asia. i do occasionally get the runs, once badly. but for spending about 3 years in india, that's not too bad.
