You may find this thread from a little while back a useful starting point.
Not sure about essential oils but some good old fashioned insecticide might help. Buy with care though. My wife was offered a preparation containing lindane which is a known carcinogen and banned in the UK and USA at least. You might get bitten but at least it will smell nice with the oils! Seriously though I would be interested to know if it works - of course there are many natural substances which repel insects.

For head lice take a good old fashioned lice comb and if you have long hair check every couple of weeks.
We brought a solution with us for our kid just in case ...I should add none of us caught any nasties in the 6 months As for bed bugs the only solution is to move room or hotel If your bed has bed bugs and youc an't move ...ie a long term rent Get the matress into the sun and the bed bugs will leave it same deal for blabnkets and the like put them out in the sun and that shoudl do the job Something soem people might want to try who are heading to india In scotland we have the menace of the Midge ...these are more ferocious than any mozzis I've had to contend with in the tropics and clouds of the blighters are not unknown in the western highlands Anyway up here we swear by Avon Skin so Soft moistouriser It doesnt stop them landing on you but it prevents them biting ...After trying it in the mountians this summer I can verify it works It would be interessting to know if it works against mozzies as well So get few bites and lovely soft skin Anyone fancy being a guinea pig? I`ve taken up the habit of , when returning, making sure that everything in my pack goes directly either into the washing machine or freezer (yes, boots as well). It`s also a good point when giving away clothes , fabrics etc to families with children. Can`t say it`s necessary , but I know I won`t have to think about it after that.

Bugs yuk!!
Well ihave just had to get rid of nits for the first time in my life. I'm pretty upset as i had lovely blond funky dreads and now i have very short hair
. I used an australian mix of sandalwood, tee tree, eucolyptus and a few other ingredients but i have to say even after using this and having all my dreads cut out i had to buy a spray and just keep combing more and more of the little buggars out. I hadn't washed my hair for 12 days. as i was itching so bad i decided to givve it a wash coz i thought i had an itchy scalp. water and dread soap might sooth it. Soon as i washed they just multiplied by the thousand due to a nice tasty clean scalp to munch on. Far to many mates. they had to go!! I have continued to use tee tree and lavender pure essential oil. Put 4 drops of tee tree 2 drops lavender in your shampoo when you wash it or conditioner too if you use it as this keeps bugs away and the lavender to make it smell nice and also for relaxation. As for scabies ???? Hope i never experience this. But i'm sure you can smother yourself in oils put in a cream over night, rap yourself up in a sheet and be sure to wash anything you have been wearing and the sheet!! repeat the process!! ![]() |

Bed bugs are Not THAT common, when you look at a room look around for bloodstains (rare) If you find too many on sheets etc. go elwhere.
I never had problems (use my own sheet(use my hamock on the bed as a sheet) in filthy places) in six months of travell. Best about lice might be to have a shaved head. Ive only met one person who had some. I myself allmost never even washed my hair (on my first trip I had long hair) and it felt clean and looked good anyways (used some coco oil or something). Dont worry.

I think if I found any bloodstains around I might want to go elsewhere, especially if they're accompanied by white chalk outlines
