Prescription Sunglasses
Hi,
I have been talking to a few friends who reckon i'd be better to wait until i get to India to have some prescription sunglasses made up rather than paying over the odds here in the UK. Does anyone have any experience of getting glasses made up in India ? If so how did you find them ? I am particularly interested in the prescription sunglasses ? Oh and also can you get daily disposable contact lenses out there ? Thanks CatCat ![]() |

Hi!
funnily enough i was in the opticians in Mapusa today (North Goa), and i got a pair of prescription shades made for 600rp (12USD). its a good idea to bring an up-to-date copy of your prescription with you though. Daily disposables are also available, but you will find them more easily in big/modern places in india |

I had a pair of no line bifocals made at an optician in Indore in 2001 which I'm still wearing (though planning to get them replaced next month when I'm back in India). They were made quickly, for vastly less than they would have cost in the US and I have been satisfied. I went to the optometrist last week and he examined them and pronounced them "excellent". I think this time I will also get a pair of prescription sunglasses, but I wouldn't hesitate if I were you.

The cost of eye test here is about 200rs. Most of the big optical shops have facility to test eyes and an optician (visiting or full time) . Some of the 'showrooms' do the testing ‘free’ if you buy the spectacles from them

I'm looking to get glasses again in India and wonder if anyone can reccomend a place in Mumbai or Mysore? Last time I went to "American Opticians" in Indore since my friends there all used the place and have been pleased with the results, but don't anyplace else in the whole country!

Have done in Hyderabad for "extras" but I have it covered under my health plan and have become addicted to stylish frames/lenses as a result..
