Typhoid
Hi Melglo,
yes, I had when I was already pregnant. I had travelled to Africa the year before and thought I had had all the necessary jabs. 2 weeks before leaving for Delhi I was told I would need a typhoid vaccination. Like you I got all worried and searched the net, spoke to doc etc... I finally decided the risk of getting typhoid and the consequences outweighed those of getting the jab. At the time I was 14 weeks pregnant, and I got it as a jab. I knew a girl living in Rajasthan that had had typhoid twice in a year...she told me I had better do it. I had a smooth pregnancy and I have a very healthy 4 month old baby girl. The doctor advised me to do it and reassured me. The reassuring thing was also that unlike other vaccinations, the typhoid vaccine is not a live one. How far are you? Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of any help (info). Where will you be travelling to and for how long? cheers Sophia |

thank you...
i am 7 weeks today and will be 13 weeks when i leave... we're going to delhi, agra, jaipur, varanasi, bodhgaya, cochin, another city in Kerala, and maybe Dharamsala... i'm a wreck! i've been wanting to go on this trip forever and i SHOULD have double checked my vaccines months ago!!! i think you have to get the vaccine at least 4 weeks before leaving so that would out me at 9 weeks.... i don't have a DR appt until 23 Oct because here they don't want to see you until at least 8 weeks (which is very frustrating!)... ugh! i appreciate your help and insight. best, melissa

Don't pregnant women travel in India ????
Mixed reactions I would say.....lots of diseases named !!!!
A few humble tips from a pro. : 1. Get clearence from your Gynaecologist...first. 2. Carry your medical data and history with you. 3. Plan comfortable modes of travel. 4. Avoid night journeys...except Reserved AC sleeper Trains. 5. Lots of branded and un-branded bottled waters in India.....so buy only BRANDED BOTTLES from good stores. 6. Have fresh cooked hot food stuff in standard places. 7. Carry emergency medications ( as stated by your doctor ) along with a copy of the prescription and his or her phone number. 8. Preferably don't ride Auto Rickshaws ( three wheelers ), Cycle Rickshaws, Horse pulled Tangas....in a way avoid all jerky modes of transport. 9. And other precautions as usual....whether its a developed, developing, or under-developed country !!!!!!!! 10. RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP....... |
