It's ok to get the right antibiotic from a chemist.

We are not doctors.

He needs a doctor. If he is relying on the prescription of his doctor back home, that is his decision, and he will find that they can be easily purchased, as long as he knows the generic (chemical) name rather than a particular brand which may be available in your country.

I agree with Nick,

Most of the medicines are available in india as well. So if he knows the medicines name, he can get it from the local chemist. If he does not has it, he will tell you where to get it from.

Its a pretty rare hotel that won't call in a doctor. Its probably a simple painful infection. But, I wouldn't want to depend on a doctor 10000 miles away for medical advice. I am not sure people can make rational judgements when they are down physically and emotionally..

Seems to be contradictory to me...

anyways then what will you do, fly back 10,000 miles to get treated. OR is there any reason for you to not trust the doctors here ?

Honestly, a local doctor is going to sort out his problems very fast I should have thought, going by my experience with doctors here - they are very competent. Have been over the years to one in Ooty, one in McLeod Ganj, one in Delhi, one in Jodhpur and one regular GP here (not that I am a great doctor visitor!) They were all excellent with diagnosis and treatment. Anyway, we haven't heard back from OP - I hope her boyfriend is well on the way to recovery by now.

Why on earth should anyone have issues with Indian doctors? They are most likely used to them in their home country!

I think we've all misunderstood edwardseco's post. After several re-reads, I think his comment about not trusting a doctor 10,000 miles away is actually a comment on the sick boyfriend's apparent desire to speak to his own doctor back home rather than a local doctor in Sikkim.

Yes, that was my interpretation.

Anyway I have the feeling OP isn't reading this anymore. But, and has been stated plentifully on this thread: Just speak to a local medic. They'll be far better equipped than us.

The silence from Suzie OP is deafining.

Journey from Gantok to Pelling is not smooth , up down and round , and then the same again and in the back of a share jeep , which in MHO where foreigners seem to get placed. If he got there with extreme pain, then it must not be as bad as reported.

Lets hope all is fine , as N said IM are not doctors or able to help in such situtions

Please OP ...........contact with the outcome Well I hope

It never ceases to amaze me when expert medical opinions are solicited from complete strangers sittingin front of their puters clad only in their chonies . . . .

It makes a change from "Yay, I'm going to India, what should I see and how should I get there?"
