I think it was mentioned already that you can't just take any old contraceptive pill so it's a moot point. But yes rumors of counterfeit or outdated material etc. being sold abound, probably not what you were looking for when buying an antimalarial or a sneeze drop either. Reputed hospitals or doctors or pharmacies should be an OK avenue though, your local embassy probably has a list.

Hi,

There is a device you can have fitted called Implanon, it's a small rod (about the size of a match) which is inserted in your arm and offers contraception fro 3 years. It might not be for everyone and i would recomend having it fitted long enough in advance to have it removed if you have any unpleasent side effects but that being said at least you will still be protected even if you are sick.

I have included a link for you here and if anyone wants not so gory tales of the insertion process then just PM me!

Here in the US, although there is no national health insurance, private health insurance companies can limit how many "refills" a pharmacy can give you at one time.

Also, believe it or not, if a pharmacist is of the "pro-life" mindset, he (or she) can decide whether or not to supply his (or her) customers with birth control pills at all! They can actually refuse to fill the prescription! It has happened in my area. Hey, don't get me started....

I find that not doing any yoga or taking any homeopathic medicines works just fine for me.

You should go in and ask for somethign else, then walk out without paying: tell him that because of your "Pro-my-life-and-wallet" mindset, it is against your principles to pay for it.

I was going to reply and let you know that you can buy it over the counter, I was only planned to be in India for 4 months and was there for 9...my docs will only give me 6 months at a time here in London....only problem with buying it there is if you have to go to a male chemist. One was ok, the other gave me the Evil Stare!!!

which is technically illegal for him to do, if I remember correctly. I don't suppose there has been a recorded case of refusing to sell condoms, is there?

Sometimes, one has to remind the blighters, it takes 2 to fornicate.

sod them.

I checked three contraceptives in the pharmaceutical handbook here. Storage life was listed as 2-5 years, with no special storing instrucions.

Since contraceptives normally are combo drugs, it will probably hard to find a generic version.

No, it's legal now in a number of states to deny contraceptives. Some people consider any method that prevents a fertilized egg from implanting (such as BCPs) to be an "abortion". Unfortunately, some women do not have any local pharmacists that can make the pill available to them. Our country is going to h*ll.

In the past, condoms were only sold to married people. That was in the 1930s or so.

This is why it's important that all Americans take advantage of their vote, write to the congresspeople, etc - and make sure that we maintain our rights, because they are being eroded as we speak. Ms magazine just featured the issue of reproductive rights being taken away in a recent issue, and it's quite scary.

Even if someone is against sex, there are those people who require birth control pills to control other diseases, such as PCOS.

That sounds postively medieval .. but I guess some people never understood it was intended as irony .

It may be "technically illegal" -- and that's a nebulous term -- but it still happens. The drugstore where this happened is a major chain in my area and nothing happened to the pharmacist, maybe given a slap on the wrist, was not fired. The irony was that the woman involved is married!

ruins explorer, I could not agree with you more! Unfortunately, my congressman is Speaker of the House Hastert, Pres. Shrub's yes-man. Fortunately, my senators are Obama and Durbin
