Hi all...
I would like to suggest to y'all the use of the small nifty HP-LX 200, an obsolete palmtop computer. However it is the best I've found on the mkt to date. About $2-300. It has a data base engine, spreadsheet and word processor. You NEED it to keep your diary, budget, and the hundreds of files for reading and reference. What reading? All those treatises from the Sunday Times or from the net about terroism, medicine, and about the cities around the world that you may stop at. Don't forget the innesting articles on history, geography, science, philosophy, psycology, and others. Then theres data files on travel medicine, what to dos with what medicines, when, where, when yu kant get to a western doctor immediately on the Silk Road. Ever stop in a town at dusk and not know which way to go? I have files of most towns in SE Asia, GHs, sights, eats, hang outs, etc. Oh yes, it will hold/dspy maps and pictures too for show and tell. of snakes, flowers, girls, guys, etc. Yu can swap yor CFs from camera to LX. Neet huh? This little HP-LX 200 will hold all yu want to carry on 220-440 MB ATA flash or CF cards. I will be in SE Asia Nov 01 to Spring 03 if yor in the area, do look me up. I'll show you mine, if you show me yours. yor pal al................... Last edited by hobchi : Oct 20th, 2001 at 10:54. |

Pocket PC
As a rule, I love traveling with a PDA (in my case these days it is a Pocket PC.) I can usually stuff so much data on it (including much travel info and advice) that I can dispense with a guidebook or two. However, I'm not taking my Pocket PC to India. I am taking quite a few internal flights and have been warned that Indian airport security is totally paranoid about batteries on carry-ons. If they force me to remove or surrend my batteries, I lose all my precious data! Therefore, I have opted to go low-tech for this trip with good old-fashioned paper. It's a pity but what ya gonna do?
