I have Fibromyalgia, it is a chronic pain/fatigue disease with a whole mess of other problems along with it. My question is .... anyone have some kind of pain disease and traveled extensivly? I remember going to Hong Kong before I knew I had FMS and was in MASSIVE pain from all the walking. I know I need to take a lot of rest breaks. I was thinking about doing some kind of spa treatment when I get their to relieve some of the pain from flying so long. Anyone have any idea of what type I can get? We will be mainly in Vizag, Bangalore, Bombay, and Goa. It is a month long trip so it is going to be VERY tough on me. I would like to know others exeriences traveling with things like arthritis, MS, Chronic Fatigue and those type of things. Thank you very much!!

Hey Lokie
Sorry about your predicament. My boyf. suffers from chronic back pain as he broke his back in a car accident some time ago. My advice to you would be to really listen to your body, don't rush, don't do too much, try and eat well, rest well and drink plenty of fluids - simple i know but it makes all the difference!I'm not too sure about what spa treatments are available but i do know that in Goa there are plenty of places to go to for a soothing massage. Remember to have a note of all your prescriptions in case you need more, which won't be a problem in India as drugs are readily available. Good luck ![]() |

Hi lokie,
I assume you know that there are ayurvedic centers here and there that do complete body treatment and are supposed to be relaxing and good for muscles; they will specialize at treating specific conditions too if you ask them. You could do a search for those; I know Kerala has lots of them, but I don't know about the places you mention. Maybe other indiamikers can be more specific. I occasionally travel with a girlfriend who has MS. She takes a combination walking stick-folding chair made of light aluminum. When she's tired, she unfolds it and sits down; other tourists are invariably envious. In India some places may be too dirty for you to sit just anywhere, so the folding stool solves that problem too. My friend could not stand India's heat, but with fibromyalgia it's mostly the cold that bothers you, right? In that case you should have no problem. Beds are very very hard in India, unless you stay in fancy hotels that cater to Westerners. I have no suggestions for this problem, but you might want to look into it. A great thing about India is that it's lots of fun just to hang out, as lots of things happen in front of you no matter where you are. So you can have a great time just sitting somewhere with your lime soda and letting the world go by. You're going to have a great time. |

hi lokie-
i suffered with fibromyalgia for abou 15 years, and after various homeopathy and herbal and dietary supplement therapies, along with yoga stretching, light weight lifting, and removing stress factors from my life, i can tell you that i havent had any problem in many months...but it took that long to recover. also, i retired from my job in june of last year. what i really wanted to say is that i found the hard beds here to be fantastic for back pain etc...in america i tried air mattresses and magnetic mattresses and everything available to modern technology, but nothing worked as well as the dense foam mattresses in india...after losing weight, even the cotton mattresses work wonderful. good luck, and dont give up hope-you CAN beat fibromyalgia! |
