Thanks MD (no pun intended). Looks like both boys are definitely on the mend. The smallest one is eating normally (for a 4 year) and the older one hasn't thrown up all day, has been drinking the ORS slowly throughout the day - and even managed to have some yoghurt (and keep it down).

He's now complaining that he's hungry - but we're taking the reintroduction of substantial food slowly (actually - what he's really grumpy about is that his school sent his work home for him.....so that he wouldn't get bored).

By the way - thoroughly agree with the sentiment about getting to the doctor sooner rather than later - especially since here in Delhi there are plenty of facilities available and the cost is minimal.

Glad to hear of the improvement. Hope they both keep it up.

Or, err... down, as appropriate .

Curious thing: over the past few days, I've been feeling thirsty most of the day.

Heheh, remember that from school yes. Just when you thought you had a few days off... Take it easy on the reintroducing food yes. I'm sure you're aware of the old plain white rice (no spices or anything) + bananas + (pea-)nuts and perhaps some curd approach (basically: non-aggravating food in any sense that tends to "stop you up" as well, and yoghurt of course is good on the intestines. A rather bland and boring diet, admittedly, but it only needs to last a few days, until it's clear the symptoms have truly subsided. To others on the road: You can try and ask for this in restaurants where they can understand what you're on about), and take it easy on the portions at first yes. Best to gradually build it up again over the course of a few days. Broth again is a classic with most any form of illness, of course.

Maybe an after-effect of that fever (or the medicines) you just went through? If thirsty, just drink I guess. Maybe very light tea or something if it makes you feel unwell.

Sounds like you're mended Nick! And no oil in food BB - that aggravates diarrhoea too. Good to hear the boys are getting better. You might be getting thirsty just reading this thread, Nick! It has that effect on me..

Its a tricky one isn't it - because no matter how hungry they might feel you just have to take it easy or else risk setting it off again. I've always been a big fan of soups for a few days followed by the gradual introduction of rice. I know for some yoghurt does the trick but for me when I've been ill - any sort of dairy food is just too yuck to contemplate (although for my son it seems to be ok).

BB - another thing about yoghurt - it sometimes is o.k. and sometimes not. I had the local doctor telling me a couple of years back when I last had similar probs. to your boys, not to take it. It can actually in certain cases aggravate - I suppose it means increase the bad bugs?? He said to wait a few days before having it. I notice whenever he prescribes antibiotics he also prescribes capsules with lactobacillus /acidopholus (the latter may or may not be there, I can't remember) inside.

thanks Aishah. He seems to be ok with yoghurt - so since he likes it and its staying in we will go with that. They are all back at school today (yippeeee)!

Good news. btw LOL with your 'in' joke!! As for yoghurt I do what I feel like - if I want to have it, then have it. I'm a great believer in eating what you crave for when ill - seems to work! I don't much like oranges but couldn't get enough of them when slightly nauseous when 'picnic' - Mr K's word for pregnant!- years ago!!

I strongly believe in eating what you fancy.

This often leads to cries of horror from observers watching me eat all the 'wrong' things as I recover from a tummy upset. Craving for a fry up? For a pot-full of thick cream? Do it!

Works for me!

but you're right - different remedies for different bodies. For some dairy products and oily food does wonders for ailments!
