What I know is one sign of heat exhaustion is said to be muscle cramps, notably in the legs indeed. What causes it I don't know.

The common remedy is said to be to take it easy (putting your legs up for a bit is said to help -- wouldn't do it for too long with a view to blood circulation) & to peferably stay in a cool environment (fan, airco), until it subsides.

Yes, I've heard that too.

Cramp as a result of excercise, on the other hand, is to do with the tissues not getting enough oxygen.

I think.

I don't know much about excercise

The leg cramps I get are at night usually - nothing to do with exercise and that 'little more salt' was advice given at an in-service once where a doctor was lecturing - it was to do with heat conditions, profuse sweating and salt replacement necessary. And yes, magnesium is also necessry as well as potassium, I think - bananas are good here. Do bananas have both magnesium and potassium in them though? I know they have one of those elements!
