nicotine replacement therapy

Are products like nicotine chewing gum, inhalers, patches etc available in India?
If so, what are the costs?

Sorry to bump this, as I know a lot of the mods here dislike smoking, but I too would be interested to know if you can get hold of this stuff in India. I am a smoker (though I only smoke 4 or 5 rollies a day) and would very much like to give up while I'm travelling. Any extra help from patches/gum whatever would help a lot...

...And as a born-again non-smoker I'm all for people giving up, any way they can

I'm sorry, though, that I can't help with an answer on this one.

Maybe Google might come up with something?

Hey, there's always me. But, er, no answers, no. Except that spending something like a monthly income on a daily basis at the local tobacconist's-cum-everything shop much to the astonishment of everyone around would sometimes make you wish you'd quit... (Sorry, peeps, I have a family of chain-smokers to feed, kind of thing. Oh, and can I have some matches with that?)

Google did indeed come up with something, called NuLife, which it says is available at your local paan-beedi outlets and grocery stores.

http://www.nulife4all.com/ourproducts.html

I will be in India next week and will report back on its availability and my progress (if I am successful!)

hate to break it to you mach, but as an ex-smoker (25 years) i have to say that stating the bleeding obvious has not been scientifically proven to help smokers quit.

however, what i did find worked was allan carr's book 'how to stop smoking the easy way.'

it really was easy, i really did quit, and i still don't smoke. it's a couple of years now, i didn't make a note of the date because i'd tried so many times before to stop that i'd stop taking notice of dates. ;(

I stopped smoking early this year as I needed surgery and did not want to go under the knife without quitting. I went to a Doctor for advice on it and she put me on Zyban (Welbutrin) which is really an anti-depressant that is used to help people to stop smoking. I also used the book by Alan Carr "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking' which is fantastic and would highly recommend it. The Zyban definitely did help and so did the book but it is different strokes for different folks. I will ask at a pharmacy here for you about Zyban or patches. However, you have really got to WANT to stop and be prepared to take whatever comes.

I didn't find any nicotine replacement products on my trip although I didn't look that hard - neither did I try that hard to stop smoking, so I agree with other posters about WANTING to stop.
My original question was about the availability and cost. What I found when I asked at various places was that no-one had heard of them, kept offering me paan, chewing tobacco, chewing gum. I even tried in Pharmacies and only one had heard of patches but they were "not available".
I am sure that with a little legwork in the big cities these products are available but I wouldn't rely on being able to find them easily.
